Arizona Bike Tour
Succinctly, my recent Trek Travel trip exceeded my expectations quite nicely. With little doubt, I’ll be back for another trip in the future, and will most certainly recommend Trek Travel to others. The geography provided for spectacular vistas and extraordinary terrain for cycling, and there is a rich history and culture to experience as well.

Welcome to your first morning in this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime destination. After a vibrant and delicious breakfast we’ll head towards the town of Fountain Hills on today's route. As we set out, you'll notice the white plume of a world-famous fountain visible just beyond Fountain Hills. This natural wonder can be seen from as far away as the Superstition Mountains, Carefree, and even from aircraft. We’ll spin through vistas of McDowell Mountain Regional Park and Tonto National Forest and if you're interested, enjoy a short hike after a picnic lunch at McDowell Regional Preserve. Stop for a few photos to remind your friends back home what they're missing. This afternoon, unwind on your own at the spa with a good book, or even better, a massage. Awaken this morning looking forward to a quintessentially Phoenix day, knowing that you can enjoy everything at your own pace. We will take a gorgeous spin in the saddle passing by saguaro that can grow to be over 30 feet tall at the rate of about a foot a decade. This ride is particularly picturesque with Piestawa Peak and Camelback Mountain off in the distance. Our ride is meant to take you into the heart of desert scenery, where you'll see the flora and fauna that make this region a gem among the Arizona landscapes. This is the middle of our adventure together and today may provide a welcome break from the saddle. If you wish, enjoy one of the many other activities that the Phoenix area has to offer such as golfing, stand-up paddle boarding, hot-air ballooning, or even horseback riding (please note these activities are not included in the trip cost but our guides are happy to help you coordinate). Once back to the spa, the afternoon is yours to relax and unwind. Today may also be a lovely day to take advantage of one of CIVANA's wellness classes. Tonight, we'll dine together as a group at Giordanno's and enjoy their wonderful home-style Italian cooking.

There is always the option to jump in the shuttle if you choose, but don't skip the chance to cool off with a dip in the lake at our gourmet picnic lunch destination. Tonight, we'll meet for our last night as a group; we will reflect on our accomplishments and memorable moments with all our newfound friends while we enjoy a social hour and dinner at Terras Restaurant! The terrain in the Phoenix area can be hilly, and the rides feature an average of about 50 feet of elevation gain per mile. Of course, shuttles are always available when you've had enough and our shuttle points are designed to facilitate skipping the rougher or more heavily trafficked sections of the routes. Our Arizona trip is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider.
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

During the spring you can expect generally sunny weather with mid-day temperatures averaging 75 to 80 degrees and cooling off at night into the low 50s. During the fall and winter you can generally expect temperatures to average from the mid 60s and 70s, dropping to the high 40s as the low temperature in Carefree, AZ. Due to the significant temperature differences between morning and mid-day, we suggest dressing in layers and bringing your cool-weather cycling gear for the mornings. Since the weather can vary from week to week, we strongly suggest checking the weather forecast right before your trip so you can pack appropriately. Packing List

Before and After Your Trip

before

Before : Tusayan, Arizona

While you're in the Phoenix area it would be remiss to pass up renting a car and heading north towards Grand Canyon National Park. Tusayan is the gateway town to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Tusayan Hotels offer close and affordable accommodations to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. During March – September the National Park Service operates their Tusayan Shuttle which take guests from Tusayan directly to the main Visitor Center every 20 minutes. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

after

After : Sedona, Arizona

Sedona is an artsy Arizona desert town near Flagstaff that’s surrounded by vibrant red-rock buttes, and ponderosa pine forests. It’s noted for its warmer temperatures and arts community. Sedona is dense with art galleries, New Age shops, spas, wellness centers, and guiding companies galore for adventuring outside. Just outside of town there are numerous trailheads to access Red Rock State Park, which offers climbing, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking spots. If you decide to visit, renting a car is your best option to get to and from Sedona. It takes approximately two hours from the Phoenix International Airport. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:
