While Trek Travel seeks to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; there are heavily trafficked sections of some routes on this trip. There are safe cycling lanes alongside these trafficked segments however you should be comfortable riding in cycling lanes next to traffic should you choose to book this trip. We strongly suggest you ride early to avoid morning rush hour traffic and afternoon heat.

Arriving

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays.

We recommend flying into Brisbane International Airport (BNE) in Brisbane, approximately 60 miles from your hotel. Brisbane International Airport is served by 31 airlines flying to 50 domestic and 29 international destinations.

Taxis are available 24/7 from sheltered ranks right outside the Domestic and International Terminals. The airport is also served by all major car rental agencies.

Train services run every 15 minutes during peak times and every 30 minutes off-peak periods. Brisbane Airtrain also connects into the Queensland Rail suburban network. Book your ticket on the Airtrain website (https://www.airtrain.com.au/booking-form/) and get your return journey free.

You can hire an Uber from Level 2, take the lift or escalator down to Level 1, follow the Rideshare Booking signs towards the open air car park on the left as you exit the Terminal building. You can use Uber’s fare estimator or your Rideshare app to work out the cost of your trip.

For door-to-door transfer to and from Brisbane Airport to your hotel, we recommend the Con-x-ion shuttle bus transfer service. The cost is about $110. Con-x-ion operates from both terminals with a pick-up and drop-off service that goes to dozens of locations around Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Sunshine Coast. Tickets can be purchased online or at the sales kiosk at each Terminal. To book visit the Con-X-ion website (https://www.con-x-ion.com/).

Alternatively, if you are traveling from within Australia or New Zealand, you have the option to fly into Gold Coast International Airport (OOL), which offers connections to 18 domestic and 12 international destinations. This is the most ideal option - or to purchase a connecting flight once you are in Australia if you do not wish to rent a car or pay for a car hire.

Your Trek Travel host will meet you at the Crystal Pacific Hotel at 11:00 AM on the first day of your Gold Coast Self-Guided bike tour to go over details of the week ahead. Depending on number of guests booked for your departure date, it is possible we will ask you to shift your meeting time by approximately 30 minutes. Please have your riding gear readily accessible to avoid having to unpack your luggage. After a trip overview, you may change into your cycling gear where you will then be fitted to your Trek bike ensuring you will be comfortable for the week. After a safety talk and reviewing the details of the route, saddle up to begin the day's ride.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your Trek Travel host by calling Trek Bicycle Burleigh Heads (+61 755 343 172), and provide them with your expected arrival time and contact details.

Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

In spring in Burleigh Heads(September to November), expect sunny weather with daytime temperatures averaging mid to upper 70s °F (24-26°C) and cooling to around 60s °F (16-19°C) at night. In summer (December to February), highs are typically in the 80s °F (27-30°C) range, and evenings are around low 70s °F (21°C). Fall (March to May) sees average temperatures from mid 60s to 70s °F (18-25°C). During winter, the dry season, temperatures are mild, with highs in the 70s °F (21-26°C) range and evening lows of 50s °F (10-13°C). Due to temperature differences between morning and mid-day, we suggest dressing in layers and bringing your cool-weather cycling gear for the mornings in the spring, fall, and winter.
