Watch the Experience
I think the true uniqueness of this trip was the melding of two activities, either one of which makes a great trip in itself – a Trek Travel bicycling adventure and a river barge excursion. It led to a confluence of magic ingredients: good friends, engaging and helpful guides, gorgeous scenery, great bikes, the novelty and unexpected luxuriousness of the barge experience, and some of the best food and wine in the world.

Planning For Your Trip

How does a River Cruise Bike Tour work?

Our accommodations for River Cruise bike tours are unlike any Trek Travel has ever visited, and now you can take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Welcome aboard the custom-designed Scenic Cruise Ship, our luxury floating hotel. It’s a newly-appointed cruise ship that features spacious balcony rooms, WiFi access, and a walking track along the sun deck. There are a variety of inviting common spaces so you’ll have plenty of room for both relaxing and socializing with other guests, and all evening meals are prepared by the ship’s classically trained chefs and are served on board in several dining rooms.

What should you expect?: This trip is designed to be flexible and luxurious. If you prefer to take a day off from riding, you’re always welcome to shift gears and relax on the ship, or explore on your own or check in with your guides regarding one of the many Scenic guided shore excursions. We’ve limited our group size to 20 guests, but just like any hotel, we’ll be sharing the ship with other guests.

Daily Itinerary: Our daily itinerary is based on scheduled sailing and port arrival times so some days have more opportunities for exploring or cycling on land while other days have more sailing. Ride distances are flexible and we can provide more mileage for those seeking additional ride time if the ship’s schedule allows. Because rivers can be unpredictable with water level shifts, temperatures and bridge passing times, we coordinate with Scenic’s captain and staff to keep us having a great time while understanding changes may happen with our planned itinerary.

Before and After Your Trip

before

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is two cities linked together by the shores of the Danube: one occupied by the past, and the other the present. Your journey through this city will find you turning the corner from one to another: whether passing the pock-marked walls scarred by the last century's wars, or revitalized in its post-communist renaissance, the city allows you to celebrate both. Expiate your indulgences in the sweet Tokaj wines by cleansing in one of the many thermal baths. Sample the panoply of food choices that make Hungarian food distinct. And enjoy one of Europe's capitals that is most notably on the rise! We recommend the following accommodations if you choose to stay in Budapest before or after your trip:

Munich, Germany

The home to Oktoberfest, this city is more than just clinking steins and lederhosen: Its a cultural and economic powerhouse the contains anything a curious wanderer could hope to find. The shadows of its gothic spires cast across the facades of hip, open air cafes and Bavarian markets to sate any palate. The old town square, the Marienplatz, is a walkable epicenter to some of the finest artistic venues in the country. Munich can be the place you go for respite, or to toast the town. We recommend the following accommodations if you choose to stay in Munich before or after your trip:
