Cyclist climbing on Trek Travel Pro Race Italy Bike Tour
I had a fantastic trip. Exceeded my expectations. I thought this would be a once in a lifetime thing and now I'm sure I will do it again. The race viewing perks of having hotel rooms for changing to street clothes, food, and warm, dry viewing areas were a 6 on a 5 point scale. That alone is a giant differentiator. The bike was fantastic. And the guides had it absolutely nailed-I didn't have to tweak a single thing all week.

Today the Giro crowds will have moved to another region but we will stay for one more day to cover the famous climbs of yesterday’s big stage and take full advantage of this spectacular area. Climbing starts directly from Cortina towards Falzarego Pass which is steeped in cycling history; people still speak of the incredible battle on this climb between Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali in the Giro d’Italia back in 1946. The winding road that passes through the valley, with its typical wooden barns known as tabià and other characteristic dwellings, brings you to the foot of next climb — the renowned Campolongo Pass. Your final climb of the day is Valparola Pass, rising up from dense woodland into a rocky landscape framed by giant mountains. The road over the pass was built during World War I to help bring supplies to the front line. From here you only have a long and enjoyable descent to get you back to the hotel. This evening, meet up with your travel companions one last time for a farewell dinner and a toast to new friends, stellar riding, and the ultimate Giro ‘d Italia experience!

The terrain is challenging, with steep climbs, stunning views, followed by long descents. See the itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options. Our Giro d'Italia pro race bike tour in the Italian Alps is best suited for our Type 4 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 3 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van.
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
This destination is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. Because of the terrain and/or remoteness of the hotels and riding routes, there are few, if any, non-riding options available. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van and/or at the hotels on the trip. Due to this, we strongly discourage non-riders from this destination. As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866.464.8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:
  • Tuscany Wine Country
  • Puglia
  • Costa Brava

Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

Weather in the mountains of Italy in May is always unpredictable. It can be beautiful and sunny but be prepared for any kind of weather, including snow and icy conditions. Temperatures can range from 30 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (0 to 21 degrees Celsius), and we recommend to pack your warmers, winter and spring gloves, rain jacket, wind breaker, and booties. Being prepared for the weather can make a challenging ride much more enjoyable! Packing List

Before and After Your Trip

before

Before: Verona, Italy

A town rich in history and culture, Verona is a gem of northern Italy. Celebrated by Shakespeare, who made it famous as the romantic setting for Romeo and Juliet, Verona is a splendid, ancient corner of the Veneto region, nestled between the river Adige and Lake Garda, and intimately linked to their waters. You’ll find plenty of attractions to keep you occupied in one of Italy’s most beautiful cities. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

after

After: Belluno, Italy

Belluno, the capital of Alto Adige, is a beautiful city with a rich history. Piazza Duomo features a 16th-century cathedral and a medieval baptistry as well as a 12th-century tower that remains from the original castle. There are Renaissance-style palazzos and plenty of cafés for people watching around the Piazza dei Martiri. The town also features a museum with a collection of archaeological artifacts and 16th- and 17th-century paintings by local artists. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:
