Welcome to big skies, open vistas and the never ending horizon that is Montana! Meet your guides in the hotel lobby at 11:00 AM this morning, then grab your biking gear and hop in the van for a short drive to Whitefish Lake. Upon arriving at the lake, you will enjoy a picnic prepared by your guides and get fit to your Trek bike. This afternoon you will head out for a great ride along the quite roads surrounding Whitefish before returning to the hotel. Unpack, relax and prepare for the days ahead. Tonight, we'll get to know each other over a quiet dinner at the local's favorite, Truby's.

Description:

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will shuttle up to Whitefish Mountain Resort for a day of awesome adventure. Choose to catch a chairlift ride to the top of the mountain for a hike along the summit trail. Fly above the treetops on a breathtaking zip-line tour. Hold on tight while racing along the alpine slide. This is a day on the mountain enjoying some real adrenaline amidst the peaceful surroundings of the Northern Rockies. This afternoon, take an optional ride along the quiet roads of the Flathead Valley or explore the shops and galleries of Whitefish. Tonight you will dine on your own at one of the fantastic restaurants in downtown Whitefish.

Going to the Sun Road Jammer Bus Tour and Whitewater Raft the Flathead

Description:

Today you'll get to experience the Crown of the Continent. Hop in a historic Glacier Jammer Bus for a journey up the Going to the Sun Road. Drive past epic waterfalls, catch a glimpse of a grizzly bear, and gaze at the majestic glaciated valleys that give this national park its name. Once you arrive at the summit, take a walk around Logan Pass before enjoying a packed lunch and heading back down the road to the West Glacier Visitor Center. This afternoon, gear up for a guided whitewater adventure down the pristine Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Afterwards, celebrate your final night together in Big Sky Country with a BBQ on the Flathead riverbank.

Thank your Guides, by tipping

Gratuities for your Trek Travel guides are not included in your trip price. We recommend tipping 7.5-10% of your trip price for the guide team. Local currency is preferred and unless you want to tip separately, guides will divide tips amongst themselves. Please tip your guides at your discretion, based on their level of professionalism, guest care and service.

On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Glacier National Park Family bike trip is best suited for our Type 1 Riders. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Type 2+ Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is undulating. Riders can expect short climbs and descents on the routes. Options are available for riding more or fewer miles, and your Trek Travel guides and support vehicle are always close by. See day by day itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.

On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information. Some non-riding options on this trip are:

Mid-summer temperatures range from upper 60's to lower 80's in the daytime, while nighttime lows dip into the upper 40s. These months are ideal for visiting this part of the northern Rockies.

For an additional fee you may request to upgrade to the Trek Emonda SLR with Shimano Di2 Electronic shifting or Bontrager Aeolus carbon wheels for the ultimate riding experience. Contact our trip consultants for more details.

If you’re going we’re going on almost all our trips. Trips with 1 guest booked are guaranteed to run. Select trips like Cross Country, Race and Special Edition trips require a minimum number of guests to run and are not guaranteed until that number is reached. Contact your Trip Consultant for more details.

In the event that a departure has low enrollment, we will notify guests at 60-90 days before departure to give the option to select a different date with more guests booked. Please do not reserve airfare before confirming your Trek Travel trip.

When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation letter is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start you will receive an email containing a trip start meeting location reminder and any last minute information that you will need to know before your trip. Once you arrive at your destination Trek Travel staff will brief you on the day-to-day plan for the trip and provide you with daily route guides and a detailed map allowing you to ride with complete confidence and independence.

  • Children must be at least 9 years of age to ride their own bike
  • For children under 9 years old, a parent must ride a FX hybrid bike with their child riding a pedal bike attachment
  • Children have the option to receive a Trek Travel T-shirt or jersey prior to the trip depending on their preference
  • Trek Travel does not provide car seats or booster seats for riding in the support vans
  • The minimum age to go on a trip is 6 years old

Meeting & Departing

How to get there

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend flying directly into Glacier Park International Airport (FCA) in Kalispell. Please arrive at least one day prior to the trip start so you may relax before your week of cycling and more importantly, to minimize risk of missing the pick-up for your trip start due to flight delays.

Flathead Glacier Transportation serves the Whitefish area from Glacier Park International Airport. Reservations can be made by calling 406-892-3390.

Firebrand Hotel or The Lodge at Whitefish Lake | Whitefish, Montana

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Firebrand Hotel (650 E. 3rd Street, Whitefish, MT 59937) or The Lodge at Whitefish Lake (1380 Wisconsin Ave, Whitefish, MT 59937) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Grab your riding gear and hop in the van for a short shuttle to Whitefish Lake, where we will enjoy a lakeside welcome picnic. Once your guides fit you to your bike, head out for a short ride around Whitefish.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip start with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, The Firebrand Hotel (844 863 1900) or the The Lodge at Whitefish Lake (406 863 4000) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.

Firebrand Hotel or The Lodge at Whitefish Lake | Whitefish, Montana

You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at your hotel in Whitefish. From here, stay a little longer to explore the Park or take the free shuttle to the Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell. There are daily connections on Delta Airlines, United, Alaska and Allegiant airlines to several major U.S. cities. For more information, please visit their website at www.iflyglacier.com. The short trip to the airport will take about 20 minutes. Whitefish is also served by an Amtrak station where the Empire Builder train stops twice daily on its route between Chicago and Seattle.

Before & After: Whitefish, Montana

If you are able to spend a few extra days after your trip exploring the area, the mountain town of Whitefish is a great place to relax and enjoy the laid back attitude of a Montana summer. Whitefish is defined by it's rustic charm amid the rugged beauty of the Rockies. Nestled at the foot of Big Mountain and within a short distance of Glacier National Park and the Canadian border, the area offers no shortage of outdoor activities for all seasons, from skiing Whitefish Mountain Resort in the winter to cycling, horseback riding and whitewater rafting in summer. The town's historic railroad depot and quaint Central Avenue charm visitors with a taste of historic Montana. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre and post-trip hotel.

This boutique ski-in mountain Lodge at Whitefish Mountain Resort is 7 miles from the town of Whitefish and 33.5 miles from Glacier National Park.
