Our accommodations for River Cruise bike tours are unlike any Trek Travel has ever visited, and now you can take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Welcome aboard the custom-designed Scenic Cruise Ship, our luxury floating hotel. It’s a newly-appointed cruise ship that features spacious balcony rooms, WiFi access, and a walking track along the sun deck. There are a variety of inviting common spaces so you’ll have plenty of room for both relaxing and socializing with other guests, and all evening meals are prepared by the ship’s classically trained chefs and are served on board in several dining rooms.

What should you expect?: This trip is designed to be flexible and luxurious. If you prefer to take a day off from riding, you’re always welcome to shift gears and relax on the ship, or explore on your own or check in with your guides regarding one of the many Scenic guided shore excursions. We’ve limited our group size to 20 guests, but just like any hotel, we’ll be sharing the ship with other guests.

Daily Itinerary: Our daily itinerary is based on scheduled sailing and port arrival times so some days have more opportunities for exploring or cycling on land while other days have more sailing. Ride distances are flexible and we can provide more mileage for those seeking additional ride time if the ship’s schedule allows. Because rivers can be unpredictable with water level shifts, temperatures and bridge passing times, we coordinate with Scenic’s captain and staff to keep us having a great time while understanding changes may happen with our planned itinerary.

As your Scenic Space Ship journeys through Europe with Trek Travel you’ll enjoy a truly intimate River Cruise experience in the most spacious cabins and be spoiled for dining choices. Meeting & Departing

How to get there

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend flying into Basel’s EuroAirport Basel–Mulhouse–Freiburg (BSL) or Zürich’s Kloten Airport (ZRH) and transferring on to Basel. The easiest way from the Basel airport is taking a taxi to the city centre. The ride takes about 15 minutes and costs approximately $30.

Gaia Hotel | Basel, Switzerland

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at Gaia hotel (Centralbahnstrasse 13 - 15, Basel) at 9:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After meeting your Trek Travel guides, we will shuttle toward the Black Forest, an unrivaled region on the Swiss-German border, often described as a home of cuckoo clocks, cherry gateau, half-timbered farmhouses and hill upon hill of dark evergreen forest. After your guides fit you to your bicycle, we will begin our first ride through green hills and slow-paced villages.

Scenic River Cruise Ship | Amsterdam, Netherlands

The trip ends on board the ship in Amsterdam. After farewell with your guides, you will have a shuttle to the ariport, or to the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, where you can leave your bags and explore the city for the day before moving to your accommodation for the rest of your vacation, or return home.

Before: Basel, Switzerland

Before you set out from Switzerland's only seaport -- or so it seems with the mighty Rhine offering passage all the way to the Dutch docks -- be sure to enjoy this historic city on the river. The Marktplatz is surrounded by gates and spires, and is the perfect place to people-watch over an ice-cream cone. The old town is a walkable, delightful playground for the architecturally astute: There are seven centuries of construction to stroll by. For a town reknown for its winter celebrations, a day of walking through the sunny old town alleys is a must before you depart. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois

One of the oldest hotels in the world, Le Trois Rois has witnessed most of Basel's history, and hosted it's most celebrated visitors. It's located in the heart of the city, right on the water. A great spot from which you can come to know Basel.

Blumenrain 8, Basel 4001, Switzerland | +41 61 260 50 50 | www.lestroisrois.com/en | ~$330

The Passage

This 4-star hotel has all the amenities you'd need, and a stunning location to boot. Called The Passage as an homage to its location upon the old town fortifications, it combines antiquity with modern amenities.

Steinengraben 51, Basel 4051, Switzerland | +41 61 588 11 41 | www.thepassage.ch/en | ~$130

GAIA Hotel

This is the place to treat yourself well while you explore the city. GAIA emphasizes organic, local produce for sustainable living; their concern for what is best for you is what makes their meticulous service impeccable.

Centralbahnstrasse 13 - 15, Basel 4002, Switzerland | +41 61 588 11 41 | www.gaiahotel.ch | ~$110

After: Amsterdam, Netherlands

You'll leave Amsterdam trying to find a way to move here. What's charmed you is the city's gezellig, that comfortable ambience that you ususally find when sitting with friends. Apart from finding your cycling brethren here --in this city the bike is king -- you'll find those cosy places where you can sit and spiel with your travel partners, taking in the city that winds by outside your window. When you venture out, beware: you'll have a hard time not smacking into one of the countless artistic troves curated here. The Netherlands' artistic expanse is captured in the span between the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk. Give this city a few days to visit and enjoy. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:

Double Tree Hilton Amsterdam

A great spot to center your forays into the city, located a short walk to the central station and to the tramways that spread out into the town. Take advantage of the rooftop bar to take in the views at sunset before you head out again for dinner.

Oosterdoksstraat 4, 1011 DK Amsterdam, Netherlands | +31 20 530 0800 | doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/netherlands/doubletree-by-hilton-amsterdam-centraal-station-AMSCSDI/index.html | ~$200

The Toren

The old-world feel in this boutique hotel in the Keizergracht is well deserved. The plush, low-lit décor harkens conveys the spirit of the two 400-year old buildings that house the rooms and breakfast hall. It's in the perfect spot to walk the canals, visit the Anne Frank House, or wander into the see-and-be-seen territory of the city.

Keizersgracht 164, 1015 CZ Amsterdam,  Netherlands | +31 85 888 5152 | www.thetoren.nl/en/ | ~$280

De L'Europe Amsterdam

This the Grande Dame of luxury hotels in Amsterdam. A Leading Hotel of the World member, it pays homage to the Grand Masters while remaining fresh and contemporary. If you don't stay for the night, at least come to dine in its extraordinary restaurant.

Nieuwe Doelenstraat 2-14, 1012 CP Amsterdam, Netherlands | +31  85 888 7327 | www.deleurope.com/ | ~$350
