Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Rioja Wine Country Self-Guided bike tour. This will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend flying into Bilbao International Airport (BIO). From there, you can either take a taxi or a direct bus to Bilbao center, and then a train from there to Logroño. The fastest and easiest option is to take a taxi—either to Bilbao train station in 15 minutes for around 25€, or directly to Logroño in an hour and a half for approximately 150€. (Please note that taxi prices may vary).
The Bizkaibus operates daily between Bilbao Airport and the city center from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, costing 6€ with a travel time of approximately 25 minutes. From Bilbao train station, you can take a direct train to Logroño, which takes about two and a half hours and costs 30€.
Train schedules are available and tickets can be booked directly online at www.renfe.com. (Please note the train schedule can change frequently. Please consult the Renfe site for the most up-to-date schedule).
Alternatively, you can fly into Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD) and take a train to Logroño. The journey takes approximately three hours and 20 minutes and costs around 70€. Logroño (RJL) also has a small airport with some local and European flights. (Note that trains are popular, convenient, and enjoyable way to travel in Europe, offering scenic views of the landscapes).
Your Trek Travel host will meet you at Pasión Ciclista Bike Store, Logroño (Av. de Madrid, 25, 26007 Logroño, La Rioja) at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Depending on the number of guests booked for your departure date, it is possible we will ask you to shift your meeting time by approximately 30 minutes. Please come dressed in your cycling clothes and bring a separate bag with any personal cycling equipment such as your personal pedals and saddle (if you wish to bring your own), snacks, layers, and anything else you may need for your ride. All your luggage will be transferred to the first hotel by your host. You will be fitted to your Trek bike ensuring you will be comfortable for the week. Following a safety talk and a review of the details of the route, you'll then begin the day's ride to San Millan de la Cogolla.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your host. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their name and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call your meeting bike store, Pasión Ciclista Bike Store - Av. de Madrid, 25, 26007 Logroño, La Rioja (+34 941 04 83 10) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.
Additional Departure Information
