My Passion:

Music, movement, and laughter are three things I try to make sure are part of my every day--the things that make me GO.

My Favorite Ride:

My most memorable ride was doing the La Sal Mountain Loop near Moab, Utah in 2014. I was completely unprepared for that ride in the middle of June--one water bottle and a bag of beef jerky, no cell phone, no real idea of the route. I thought I would perish, but I made it through, largely by talking to myself the entire ride, and felt pretty rad.

In My Previous Life:

I have dabbled in a little bit of everything! My formal education in public health took me all over the world doing health education and leading volunteer groups; I have worked in gyms coaching cycling and personal training pretty consistently for the last nine years; I am the lead singer in a pretty rockin' indie soul band back in Denver!

My Passion:

Replacing fear of the unknown with curiosity; languages & cultures; my Mom's chocolate chip cookies; mountains & oceans; first tracks on a powder day; KIDS - they rock my world; a humbling surf session concluded by a beautiful Guiones sunset; my family; a killer climb leading to an epic "singing" descent (yep, I sing if it's that good); camping in the mountains; doing it, instead of wishing I was doing it.

My Favorite Ride:

Oh man, our hiring event! I was chatting with the big dog, aka T$$, better know as Tania, the President of Trek Travel. Yea, one might say I was as nervous as a little girl would be on their first day of kindergarten, but I held my cool - until the red light. Damn, that red light! Apparently, one must unclip if they want to look cool infront of their potential boss. Well, I didn't get the memo and "boom", on the ground went Spo (speaking in 3rd person now). Clearly, I didn't get the style points, but with luck, I still got hired.

My Favorite Ride:

I have two. One is the first time I went cycling in Italy. I was in Chianti and I planned a lovely 85 km ride. Then I got lost and it turned into a 150km, uphill-both-ways in the snow story. But it was spectacular and definitely off the beaten path (so many villas). I became friends with an old Italian man who gave me some of his table red wine in a tin cup which complimented my dizziness and dehydration splendidly. The second is a favorite ride in Seattle. As an insomniac, I look for ways to burn energy at night so I would go for long city bike rides at 3AM. With the light drizzle, no one around, and orange lights making everything glow, it was always surreal. Rather poetic and invigorating in a melancholy sort of way.

I am a lover of life and all that it has to offer. I love to meet new people and hear their stories. There is nothing better than sharing good conversation with good people over the course of a meal or a bike ride. I love to ride my bike and I know this because I discovered my love for cycling in a place where most people think it is a very strange thing to do. I love to help other people find a passion for bicycles, and I try to tell them how bikes can save the world. I love traveling and all of unique cultures, foods, landscapes, relationships, and experiences that come along with it.

My Favorite Ride:

My most memorable ride is the first ride I ever did with my dad. It took seven years for me to convince him to get on a bike, we only rode two miles, and he could barely walk when we finished. But, he found a love for riding and has ridden on and off since then.

Mont Ventoux, 2010. My friend Carl came to visit me from home. We had an epic night of drinking local wine and eating amazing food to kick off his trip. The next day brought us an epic ride from Bonnieux that started WAY too late in the day for the ride planned. My Favorite Ride:

My most memorable ride was an unsupported bike trip across Israel and part of Egypt in 1999. There was a rumor that Pink Floyd was going to perform at the Pyramids of Giza on December 31 for a Millenium show so I convinced a friend of mine to come with me. Jean Michel Jarre, a pioneer in electronica, new age and ambient music held a 12 hour concert with over 120,000 people in attendance. The pyramids were backlit in green with thousands of neon inflattable pool rafts and beach balls soaring through the air all night. The entire evening was surreal. Another trip highlight was when bedoins offered to trade 100 camels for me in the Sinai.

In Tuscany, the loop from Pienza to Bagno Vignoni and Montalcino is awesome. On this ride, you can soak your feet in the thermal waters at Bagno Vignoni, see the monks chanting at the Abbazzia di Sant'Antimo, have a slice (or 2) of great pizza in Montalcino, and wash it down with a Brunello while you're at it. My Favorite Ride:

Road Biking: Mallorca, Spain! It is like no other place on the planet for road cycling. Coastal riding and mountainous riding all in one place! The roads are spectacular with switch back climbs at the perfect grade. The views, the rides, the people and the culture never cease to amaze me. Mountain Biking: The last 75 miles of the Colorado Trail that leads into Durango, Colorado. This section is hands down the most scenic of the 500 miles with pristine singletrack, high alpine views and wild flowers as high as your head. My favorite section begins at 10,000ft at the Molas Pass trailhead and ends at the base of Engineer Mountain.

Sports, music, dancing, travel, freedom, suitcases and gear. Oh, and guiding bike trips!

My Favorite Ride:

I remember waking up one morning in provence and packing up French cheese with my friend Cristian from Spain. We were about to climb Mount Ventoux, a torturous climb of 13 miles averaging 9% grade and a total of 5331 feet elevation gain. Well, as you probably guessed already, I had some burning muscle sensations just about everywhere. After 2:16 I made it and celebrated with French cheese and whatever I could find to eat. The view was an absolutely stunning 360 degrees panorama of mountains, valleys and rivers. And now for the best part, the 13 mile descent back. We got our money back all-right and with a huge smile on our faces returned to brag about it!
