We recommend you fly into Kansai International Airport (KIX). There are various ways to get from Kansai Airport Station to Nara, but the easiest and fastest option is taking the JR West Train from Kansai-Airport to Nara Station with one transfer at Tennoji Station. This method takes about 90 minutes. If you are staying in Kyoto before your trip, you should book a direct train from Kansai-Airport to Kyoto Station on JR West which takes approximately 80 minutes. There are frequent trains between Kansai Airport and Kyoto Station. You can use the JR West Timetable and Fare Finder on www.westjr.co.jp/global/ to find a train time that suits your schedule. Then, to get to Nara, you will take the JR train from Kyoto Station to Nara Station. This takes about 45 minutes by Miyakoji Rapid Service. From Nara station, we recommend taking a 5 minute taxi ride to Noborioji Hotel.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at 10:30 AM at Noborioji Hotel Nara, Nara, Japan. You’ll enjoy an early lunch at the hotel while your guides review safety and trip details to set you up for a great week ahead. After lunch, you’ll have time to change in your room before getting oriented on your Trek bike with a personalized fit and review today’s route before rolling out on your first ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Noborioji Hotel Nara (+81 0742 25 2591) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. A taxi from Kyoto to the first hotel will take about 40 minutes and costs around $150 USD.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides on the last day of trip after a brief morning ride in Tokyo. Check-out is at 12:00 PM. To get to the airport from the hotel, you can take the airport limousine bus from Tokyo Station (approximately 45 minutes) or hire a taxi directly to the airport (approximately 35 minutes). Please do not book a flight before 3:00 PM to allow for any potential delays.

Cycle from Nara’s plains to the hills then explore Nara's historical center
Overview
You'll leave the Nara plain behind on a climb that carries you through cedar forests and past centuries-old temples before reaching a broad plateau. At the top, flooded rice paddies stretch across the landscape, reflecting new seedlings in the water as frogs croak along the edges. Stop for a traditional lunch, including seasonal ingredients and noodles, rice-based donburi, or Japanese katsu curry. Back on the bike, a few small hills follow before a long descent back toward the Nara plain. Pass through Tenri, known for its distinctive modern Buddhist temples and the community that lives, studies, and worships there, then finish on quiet back streets lined with small gardens and traditional homes. This afternoon you're free to explore Nara’s historic center, including Tōdai-ji Temple—an impressive 8th-century landmark housing the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha Vairocana.
