Level 4 / 4+ Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer, including century rides that feature the famous pro, Marco Pantani's, training grounds. Your Day. You Decide.

Your Trip Need to Knows:
We do our best to avoid busy roadways as much as possible, however, urban riding and sections of busy roads are unavoidable for some segments of your rides.
Good fitness and good bike handling skills are required to ride bikes in this region because the terrain is consistently hilly with some sustained climbs. You must also be comfortable riding in traffic, especially when approaching town centers. For this reason this trip is recommended for our Level 3 and Level 4 riders only. E-bikes are not available in this region.
Avid cyclists (Level 4) can retrace the roads where the famous professional rider Marco Pantani used to train. Those routes are not described in the itinerary as they will only suit expert riders. However, your Trek Travel host will be happy to provide you with GPX tracks of Pantani’s favorite routes, including the legendary ride to Monte Carpegna. Additionally, your host can be available to shuttle you to the start of the rides upon request (for an extra fee).
Before and After Your Trip
Bologna, Italy
Tucked away among the hills of Emilia-Romagna, Bologna is one of Italy’s most beautiful and historic cities. With sublime architecture, outstanding cuisine, and rich culture, Bologna is truly one-of-a-kind. Perhaps the city’s three nicknames best summarize what makes Bologna so unique: La dotta means “the learned one” and is a nod to the historic University of Bologna; La grassa means “the fat one” and refers to the area’s amazing cuisine and excellent gastronomy; and La rossa means “the red one,” which signifies the uniform red coloring of local buildings and their roofs, as well as the red of local motor vehicle manufacturers Ferrari and Ducati. The historic center of the city is considered to be among the most extensive in Italy and is known for its two leaning towers (Asinelli and Garisenda), ancient churches, and beautiful porticoed streets. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre- and post-trip hotel:
