Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Italian Dolomites Gravel bike trip, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Venice's Marco Polo Airport (VCE) and then take the ATVO airport shuttle to Venice-Mestre train station (the ride takes approximately 20 minutes and the ticket costs €8). In Venice-Mestre train station trains depart frequently to Bassano del Grappa. Tickets costs €6 and the ride takes approximately one hour. Italian train schedules can be found on www.TrenItalia.com.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Bassano del Grappa Train Station at 10:30 AM on the first day of your Italian Dolomites Gravel bike tour. You will shuttle approximately 40 minutes to the mountain town of Asiago where you will be welcomed by a casual buffet-style lunch while your guides fit and familiarize you with your Trek Checkpoint gravel bike for the week. Please have your first day’s riding gear handy and separate from your other luggage to facilitate the bike fitting and ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hotel Linta (+39 0424 462753) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. A taxi from Bassano del Grappa to the hotel would cost approximately €80.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at the Hotel Regina in San Martino di Castrozza. You will then shuttle for one hour and a half to Bassano del Grappa Train station and arrive at approximately 12:30 PM. Trains run frequently from here to Venice and Padoa, where there are easy connections to all major Italian cities. For further information, please see www.TrenItalia.com.
Get your first taste of gravel riding on the Asiago Plateau
Overview
You'll meet your guides at the train station in the lively medieval town of Bassano del Grappa. From here you'll take a 40-minute private shuttle to the stunning Asiago Plateau, perched at an altitude of 3,281 feet (1,000 m.). After a delicious lunch featuring local dishes, your guides will fit you to your Trek Checkpoint gravel bike before setting off on a scenic ride along the path of a former railway. You’ll meander between old stations, historical sites, and natural landscapes. The route largely winds through the woods where you’ll encounter a few British cemeteries with graves from World War I. Our day concludes at the hotel where you can relax, unpack, and gear up for our first night's dinner and social hour at the hotel, where your guides will introduce you to the excitement that lies ahead.
