Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Provence to Girona bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Paris (CDG). From Paris, take a TGV train to Montpellier Sud de France, either from the TGV station at Charles de Gaulle Airport or from the Gare de Lyon in Paris. Please note that there are two TGV train stations in Montpellier—Sud de France and the center station (Gare de Montpellier Saint-Roch). To ensure a quicker journey, we recommend you book your ticket to arrive at the Sud de France station. There is a frequent shuttle service for a few euros that connects the two train stations if you are staying in the center of the city, or you can opt for a taxi (around 10€ for a fifteen-minute trip).
If you are arriving at Montpellier Airport, you can take a bus or a quick taxi to reach the Sud de France meeting point.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Montpellier Sud France train station at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After a quick twenty-minute shuttle, you will arrive at Alphonsia Maria - La Peniche where you can enjoy a chef-prepared brunch as your guides outline the week ahead and get you comfortably fitted to your Trek bike. Once everyone's bike is ready, you'll be off to explore the beautiful tracks of the South of France. Please have your riding gear in a separate bag or readily accessible, to avoid having to unpack your luggage.
If you will be late for the meeting time, or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our hotel, Zenitude Relais & Spa La Valadière (+33 4 66 40 40 10), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:30 AM at Hotel Palau Fugit. Please be sure to secure transportation to your departure airport prior to the last day of the trip. From Hotel Palau Fugit, the Girona Train Station is approximately a 15-minute walk, or taxis are also available for the short ride. Trains depart hourly to Barcelona Sants and Estació de França. For more information, consult www.renfe.com.
Once you arrive in Barcelona Sants, you may take a bus (depart every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 11:45 PM) to Terminal 1, or a train to Terminal 2. Alternatively, taxis are plentiful and operate 24 hours a day. The journey from the train station in the city center to the airport will take 20-30 minutes and cost around 35€.
Welcome to Provence where your gravel adventure begins!
Overview
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Montpellier-Sud de France train station at 10:00 AM to begin your trip. A 20-minute private shuttle brings you to Alphonsia Maria – La Peniche, a beautifully restored barge moored along the Canal du Rhône à Sète. After enjoying a French early lunch inspired by the chef’s innovative culinary creations and a brief round of introductions, your guides will outline the trip and fit you to your Trek bike. Today’s ride offers a perfect introduction to the gravel terrain ahead, tracing the canal along the seawall, crossing Vic Pond, and winding through fragrant pine forests rich with coastal aroma. A gentle climb reveals sweeping views of the mountains and sea before you descend to tonight’s hotel. Overview
Rise and shine! After a hearty hotel breakfast, we’ll set off on our first big ride through the countryside of southern France. Today’s route climbs into the hills above Montpellier, offering expansive views of the sea. Some unpaved sections are technically challenging—including a steep, chunky gravel descent—but the remote terrain and sound of gravel under your wheels make it all worthwhile. Your guides will have fresh sandwiches from a local bakery ready whenever you’re feeling hungry for lunch. Later, ride to Lac du Salagou, a reservoir framed by iron-rich red soil that contrasts strikingly with the deep blue water to create a truly unique landscape. Tonight’s stay is in the Cirque de Mourèze, a surreal setting of weathered dolomite rock formations shaped by millions of years of erosion.
