Additional Arrival Information
We suggest you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Alaska Bike Tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Anchorage (ANC). The airport is six and a half miles from the pickup location at The Wildbirch Hotel. Transportation from the airport can be arranged through the hotel or guests may book a taxi or Uber from the airport for appoximately $25.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the hotel lobby of The Wildbirch Hotel (239 W 4th Ave, Anchorage, AK 99501) at 9:30 AM on the first day of the trip. You'll then shuttle in the Trek Travel van for a one-hour journey to Meier Lake Resort where your guides will introduce you to your Trek bike for the week and set you up with a comfortable fit, along with a tour orientation, and lunch. After lunch, it's a half-hour van shuttle to the top of Hatcher Pass where you will enjoy a short walking tour of the historic Independence Mine. After checking out the mine site, we'll set out on our first ride down the flowy Hatcher Pass.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip start with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge (+1 (907) 280-8089) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.
Additional Departure Information
You'll begin the last day of the trip with a 7:00 AM boarding of the Alaska Marine Ferry in Valdez for a scenic six-hour journey to Whittier. From there, a 90-minute shuttle will take you to Anchorage. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views of fjords and glaciers—one final glimpse of Alaska’s wild beauty.
You’ll say goodbye to your guides at either 2:30 PM at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) or at 3:00 PM at The Wildbirch Hotel. To ensure a smooth departure, please schedule your flight for 5:00 PM or later. Alternatively, consider booking an overnight stay in Anchorage to relax and enjoy one last Alaskan evening before heading home.

Overview
Welcome to the wilds of Alaska! Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at 9:30 AM in the hotel lobby of The Wildbirch Hotel. After a 60-minute shuttle, we’ll arrive at Meier Lake Resort to fit our bikes, discuss the tour, and have a delicious lunch. Following that, we'll drive 30 minutes up scenic Hatcher Pass to tour a historic gold mining town and learn about mining’s role in the region. After seeing the site, we'll set out on our bikes for a mostly downhill ride to the town of Palmer. We’ll then shuttle to a cozy, family-owned heli-ski lodge with walking trails, a hot tub, and amazing views as far as the eye can see. Once you’ve settled in, we’ll gather for a relaxed social hour where your guides will lead a round of introductions and share a few fun details about the week ahead. Then it’s off to dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, celebrated for its creative dishes and focus on fresh, local ingredients.

Today offers a rare and thrilling opportunity to ride into Wrangell–St. Elias National Park along the stunning remote gravel road known as 'The McCarthy Road'! After breakfast, we shuttle to the ride start, where a peaceful route with incredible scenery awaits. Surrounded by vast wilderness and staggering peaks, there’s a good chance of spotting wildlife along the way. The ride ends with a breathtaking crossing of the historic Kuskulana Bridge—at 525 feet long and 238 feet above the river, it is an unforgettable highlight! You'll enjoy a picnic lunch then shuttle back to Copper River for a group dinner. For those with energy to spare, the lodge offers scenic hiking trails with sweeping views—perfect for an evening adventure or peaceful nature walk.

The ride ends just before Valdez, with an option for avid riders to pedal all 50 scenic miles into town. Tonight’s accommodations are unassuming on the outside but offer modern, cozy rooms for a restful night. Don’t forget your binoculars—this stretch is a prime spot for spotting sea otters, whales, and other wildlife! We’ll arrive in the quaint port town of Whittier before enjoying a scenic 90-minute shuttle ride back to Anchorage. Whether you're catching an evening flight or spending one last night in the city, this day is the perfect finale to our incredible Alaskan adventure.
