Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive in Wangaratta at least one day prior to the start of your Australia High Country Gravel bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight or public transport delays. We recommend that you fly into Melbourne Airport (MEL). To get from Melbourne Airport to the trip start in Wangaratta, travel first to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne's city center, then take a two-and-a-half-hour train or bus ride to Wangaratta Railway Station.
From the airport, you can take a 30-minute bus ride on the SkyBus to the Southern Cross Station. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.skybus.com and round-trip fares will cost $40 AUD. The buses run every every 10-15 minutes from 4:00 AM to 1:00 AM between the airport and Southern Cross Station. Otherwise, Ubers and taxis are readily available.
To get to the trip start, it is best to take a train or bus from Southern Cross Station to Wangaratta Railway Station. Tickets can be purchased at www.transportnsw.info and we highly recommend booking these tickets at least one week in advance because they can sell out. If staying in Wangaratta the night before the trip begins, we recommend the Quality Hotel Wangaratta Gateway. This hotel is a five-minute walk from the railway station.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Quality Hotel Wangaratta Gateway (29-37 Ryley Street Wangaratta Victoria 3677) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Your trip begins with a 30-minute shuttle to Beechworth, where you'll enjoy lunch at Bilson's Brewery followed by a bike fitting session and your first ride. Please come with your clothes and gear in a separate, readily accessible bag. There are facilities at the brewery to change into your gear before your ride. Your main luggage will be stored until you reach the first hotel.
If you will be late for the meeting or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call the Beechworth Motor Inn (+61 3 5728 1301), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.
Additional Departure Information
At the end of the trip, you will say goodbye to your guides at 11:00 AM and board a private, three-hour shuttle to the Melbourne Airport, arriving at approximately 2:00 PM. Please do not book a flight before 5:00 PM to allow for any potential delays. The shuttle will continue to the Southern Cross Station in downtown Melbourne, which is about 30-minutes from the airport.
