Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend you fly into Trieste and then take a train to Trieste's Central Station.
The easiest way to access Trieste Central Station and the city center from the airport is by train. The ride takes about 30 minutes and tickets cost around 5€. Trains depart from the airport approximately every 30 minutes and drop you off directly at the Central Station. For more information, visit the Trenitalia website. Alternatively you can also take bus number 51 from the airport to Trieste's central bus station (located next to the train station). This ride will take you approximately one hour. Taxis are available and prices start from 75€ to the city center.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the main entrance of the Trieste Central Station (Piazza della Libertà, 9, 34135 Trieste, Italy) at 9:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After an hour and fifteen minute shuttle to your trip's starting point in Poreč, Croatia, your guides will do a bike fitting to ensure your comfort on your Trek bike for the week. After the bike fit, your guides will share some safety tips and a route overview before taking your first spin along the very start of the Parenzana trail. Please have your riding gear handy and separate from your other luggage to facilitate the bike fitting and ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Roxanich Winery & Design Hotel (+385 52 205 700) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. Please note that a taxi from the airport to the trip hotel will cost approximately $300 USD.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at Villa San Servolo and board a private shuttle from the trip end to Trieste Airport (TRS) which takes approximately one hour and 15 minutes. Here you can take a train to Trieste city center or fly on to your next adventure.
Kick off your gravel adventure from coastal Poreč to historic Motovun
Overview
Welcome to your gravel cycling vacation in Croatia! Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the main entrance of the Trieste Central Station in Italy at 9:00 AM. From there, a private shuttle—just over an hour—will take you across the border into Istria to the ride start in Poreč. After a brief round of introductions, your guides will fit you to your Trek Checkpoint gravel bike and go over safety, logistics, and the plan for the week ahead. Then it’s time to hit the trail. Today’s ride starts at the beginning of the Parenzana, a historic rail line turned gravel route that winds through olive groves and vineyards. A stop at a local café offers the chance to refuel with a little caffeine before you ascend into the hilltop village of Motovun. After checking into the hotel, regroup for a welcome drink and your first dinner together in this charming medieval town.

Pedal back in time through tunnels and over bridges along the Parenzana trail
Overview
Wake up to sweeping views of Istrian vineyards and the distant shimmer of the Adriatic. After breakfast, hop back on the Parenzana trail and warm up your legs on quiet secondary roads before rejoining hard-packed gravel. Pause for a mid-morning coffee before a short climb leads you to Završje, a hilltop village with cobbled Romanesque streets, a historic castle, and the weathered ruins of ancient churches. From here, enjoy the best of the original railway line—smooth, gradual grades winding through tunnels, over stone bridges, and alongside remnants of aqueducts built to maintain flow through the hills. Your ride ends back in Motovun, where we’ll gather for a bistro lunch. This afternoon is yours to explore the artisan shops or simply relax before we come together again for a wine tasting at the hotel. Afterwards, enjoy dinner on your own—either dine at the hotel or take a shuttle into town to try one of its inviting restaurants.
