Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Provence Countryside Bike Tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Paris (CDG). From Paris, take a TGV train to Avignon, either from the TGV station at Charles de Gaulle Airport or from the Gare de Lyon in Paris.
Alternatively, you may fly into Marseilles (MRS) or Nice (NCE) and take a train to Avignon. Please note that there are two train stations in Avignon—the TGV and the center station (Gare d'Avignon-Centre). The TGV station is approximately five miles (eight kilometers) from the center station downtown. If you happen to arrive at the Avignon Centre train station, there is a frequent bus shuttle service for a few euros that connects the two train stations. Taxis are also available at the center station for the 10-minute ride for approximately 20€.
Train schedules are available and tickets can be booked directly online at www.trainline.com or by using our in house travel agent services. (Please note: Train schedules change frequently. Please consult the Trainline site for the most up-to-date schedule.)
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the bus parking located in the north exit of the Avignon TGV Station at 11:00 AM on the first day of the trip. To find the north exit, follow signs to: Sortie Nord, the car rental area (location voitures) and to Parking P1. Exit the station and turn left in the direction of the large bus parking lot. Here the shuttle will be waiting for you with your Trek Travel guide just before your departure time. After a 40-minute private shuttle, you will arrive at Domaine de la Vallongue, a beautiful estate in the heart of the Massif des Alpilles (literally meaning the small Alpes), a natural site of the Bouches du Rhône department in Provence. From here, you will be set up on your Trek bike, have lunch, and start your first ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hôtel Sous les Figuiers(+33 4 32 60 15 40), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. You may take a taxi to the first night’s hotel for approximately 100€.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at the Hôtel Sous Les Figuiers. After saying goodbye to your guides, you will take a private coach to the Avignon TGV or central station (approximately 30 minute shuttle). You can take a train to Paris or any other destination from either station. Please do not book any train before 12:00 PM noon to accommodate possible delays due to traffic.
Welcome ride to explore the stunning limestone massifs of Les Alpilles

Ride to the small town of Eygalières and uncover its understated charm
Overview
It's your first morning in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, and there's an exciting, culture-filled day in store! After accomplishing a couple of climbs early in the ride, while your legs are still fresh, you'll be greeted by the gorgeous limestone mountain range, The Alpilles, as you make your way towards Eygalières. This charming town is renowned for its fountains and imposing fortress castle. Here you'll pause for lunch, before setting off on a quiet route home. Back in Saint-Rémy, you're free to discover the town on your own this afternoon. We recommend paying a visit to Saint Paul's Mausoleum, Van Gogh's home for a year and the very spot where he painted his famous "Starry Night". Discover the famed Pont Du Gard, an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge built in the 1st century AD
Overview
This morning enjoy an extra pain au chocolat before the ancient history of this region beckons you to explore. Today’s fun route is mostly flat and accompanied by unique sites along the way. A quick shuttle will take you to one of the world's best-preserved examples of Roman ingenuity, the Pont du Gard. This three-tiered aqueduct bridge transported water for up to 30 miles (50 km) away to the Roman colony of Nemausus; today known as the boating town of Nîmes. Take the time to explore the bridge and visit the museum on the other side of the river. You’ll then hop on your bike and ride towards the Frigolet Abbey. This impressive Benedict Abbey was built in 1160 and was initially occupied by the Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Montmajour monks. After a short stop to enjoy a fresh bakery lunch, you’ll then make your way back home. Back in Saint-Rémy, dinner is on your own and, as always, your guides will be happy to recommend more of their favorite spots in town. You might want to pass by La Cave aux Fromages, an enticing cheese shop with a 12-century ripening cellar and a variety of cheese and charcuterie plates.
