You’ll approach from the opposite side of the race, starting with the Col du Lautaret, a high pass crossed more than 40 times in Tour history and guaranteed to get the legs firing. From there, continue upward to nearly 8,600 feet (2,621 m) atop the Col du Galibier, a monumental ascent that’s defined over a century of Tour de France drama. Your guides will provide support, snacks, and Tour-style encouragement as you power through each switchback with pro-level determination. After lunch, enjoy the sweeping descent and either shuttle or ride back up to Les Deux Alpes. Ride the course ahead of the peloton, tackling its 21 famed switchbacks—each named for a past Tour winner—on an 8% average grade that demands every ounce of focus. The energy is electric, with fans lining the roads for this iconic stage. Join your fellow travelers at Trek Travel’s Signature Race Access Event at Les Grandes Rousses, perfectly positioned on the final switchbacks for prime views of the live action. After the start, we’ll regroup for lunch and return to Les Deux Alpes to relax and watch the race unfold on TV as the pros tackle the legendary climbs of the Cols du Télégraphe, Galibier, and Sarenne before the dramatic finish atop Alpe d’Huez. Those eager for more live action can descend to Mizoën to see the peloton fly past, then tackle the 10 switchbacks back to the hotel.
