Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of the Andalucia bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. Be sure to spend some time enjoying Madrid and Malaga city centers.
We recommend that you book a round trip to Madrid-Barajas International Airport (MAD) with more than 10 direct connections from major cities in the United States (New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and others) and Canada (Montreal and Toronto). From Madrid you can take a direct train to Malaga.
From Madrid-Barajas airport, the best and fastest option will be to take a 15-25 minutes taxi straight to AVE Chamartin Train Station, with a fixed rate of 33€ (Tariff 4, credit card accepted). Learn more here».
Alternatively, from Terminal 4 you can take any train to connect to AVE Chamartin train station. Learn more here».
From AVE Chamartin train station you will get a direct high-speed train, AVE, to Malaga with a duration of two hours and forty-five minutes. We recommend you buy a one-way train ticket in advance through Renfe’s website, from “Madrid-Chamartin Almudena Grandes” to “Málaga María Zambrano.” For tickets and schedules, see www.renfe.com. The cost will vary, up to 110€, depending on time and availability.
Alternatively, you could fly directly into Málaga-Costa del Sol International Airport (AGP), which offers multiple flights, including connections from New York (EWR) and Montreal (YUL) as well as several daily connections with major European airports.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the main entrance of the Maria Zambrano Train Station (Explanada de la Estación street, s/n, 29002 Málaga) at 10:00 AM. You'll then shuttle one hour to Alfarnatejo where your guides will fit you to your Trek bike to ensure your comfort for the week. Then, after a brief orientation and safety talk, we'll begin the day's ride. Please arrive dressed in your first-day cycling clothes. Keep everything you will need for the ride including shoes, glasses, saddle and pedals (if you are bringing your own), etc., easily accessible and separate from your main luggage.
Please note: Lunch will be towards the end of the ride, as you get closer to your first hotel. Please ensure you have a hearty breakfast as Spanish lunch times are traditionally later than in the US (2:00-3:00 PM).
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, La Bobadilla (+34 958 32 18 61) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. A taxi from Malaga to your ride start or first hotel will take about one hour and will cost approximately 160€.
