Solvang may seem like just another stop in wine country for most California tourists, but for cyclists, it's truly something special. Hosting a time trial for the Tour of California multiple times and serving as a base camp for pro teams during spring training, Solvang offers excellent opportunities for boosting fitness with an epic ride up the infamous Gibraltar or a spin through Foxen Canyon. And after your rides, don't forget to sample a wine or two, and perhaps a taste of Abelskiver, the local Danish pastry - this is a vacation, after all. Please note: Our 4-day ride options below are based on the longer 7-day Ride Camp. Option 1-4 is standard on the Monday start, and Option 4-7 is standard on the Thursday start. We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) in Goleta, CA which is about eight miles (12 km) from downtown Santa Barbara.
From here, scheduled flights arrive from and depart to most major cities in the U.S. You can also fly into Los Angeles (LAX) but please be aware you will have to rent a car or look into shuttle options to Solvang. From LA, it takes approximately three hours to Solvang with traffic. Options to get to Solvang include local car rental, taxi, or you can book an Amtrack ticket from LAX for about $90. Cars can generally be found inexpensively from the Santa Barbara Airport with multiple rental agencies available. Taxi from Santa Barbara's airport cost approximately $120 from SBA. Options include Shah's Taxi (805-708-1403), Promenade Taxi (805-252-5990), Santa Barbara Luxury Limo (805-722-7940).
Your Trek Travel staff will meet you at Hotel Corque (400 Alisal Road, Solvang, California 93464) between 11:00 AM-1:00 PM on the first day of the trip. Upon meeting your guides and getting checked into the hotel, we will ensure you have a great fit to your Trek bike for the trip and give you a few pointers before you head off on a self-guided warm-up ride.
If you will be late for the meeting time, or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hotel Corque (800-624-5572), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. You can catch the Road Runner ride-share shuttle from SBA to Solvang for approximately $90, (805-389-8196), or alternatively you can catch a number of taxis for about $120.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:00 AM at Corque Hotel. Please be sure to book transportation to your departure airport prior to the end of your trip.
The use of your Trek Travel bike ends at 11:00 AM on the day of departure, and in some cases, may be needed for another guest arriving that day. Extensions may be available upon request but cannot be guaranteed before your trip begins.

You can then choose to add on a short, yet beautiful climb up Alisal Road which takes you from downtown Solvang, the heart of "Little Denmark," and back in time through the old Nojoqui Rancho that survives today in the Alisal Ranch. Though you are never really far from "civilization", the dense sycamores overarching the road give a far-distant feel. After a sustained climb up and over the coastal ridge line, we’ll stop for lunch at the iconic Jalama Beach oceanfront to recharge. Jalama Beach Store ...
