Activity Level: Level 2, Level 3
Terrain: Hilly
The unpaved surfaces on our Thailand bike tour are rated as Beginner. No prior gravel experience is necessary, but we recommend having strong bike handling skills or minimal gravel riding experience to be comfortable on the variable surfaces on this trip. The overall split of paved and unpaved roads on this tour is roughly 75% paved / 25% unpaved. Paved surfaces are either asphalt or concrete with conditions ranging from very smooth to bumpy and cratered. Unpaved surfaces are predominantly farmer trails which range from hard-packed soil to loose gravel with good traction. There are a few short sections of singletrack and rocky forest paths. Although much of the route is on quiet countryside roads with minimal traffic, we will regularly share the roads with cars, motorbikes, and buses. There are a handful of unavoidable sections along main provincial roads, but these are few and far between. The support van will be stationed at key points along the route, as it can't always follow the entire route.
This tour is best suited for Level 2 and Level 3 riders with strong bike handling skills or basic gravel experience. Level 2 Riders can opt for shorter routes with van shuttles, while Level 3 and Level 4 Riders will enjoy the added mileage, climbing and challenging gravel sections of the avid routes. For those familiar with gravel riding and eager to experience every mile, yet mindful of their physical limits, our electric-assist bike option offers a comfortable and enjoyable solution.
