Ojai to Santa Barbara Bike Tour

Legendary Opulence of California's Central Coast

Breathe deeply and let the calming energy and unprecedented luxury of the California coast take over. If you've never heard of Ojai, you're in for an undiscovered delight. This is where artists, philosophers, and historians escape the rat race and find their modern chi. You'll sink into decadence at the award-winning Ojai Valley Inn with its gorgeous grounds and pool with a spectacular view, lavish spa, and the list goes on. While you may want to get off the grid and have your mail forwarded here permanently, before you know it you’ll be descending from the mountains to the sea as we head for Santa Barbara, the American Riviera. There’s nothing more invigorating than picture-perfect riding along the coast and a sunset sail before being welcomed to the exquisite Belmond El Encanto. Enjoy fresh nouveau-Californian cuisine as we explore Santa Barbara’s trendiest cosmopolitan corners. For a grand finale, relax and rejuvenate your soul at the sumptuous Inn at Mattei’s Tavern, nestled in the heart of Los Olivos amidst the vineyards of the Santa Ynez Valley. From here you'll pedal and savor world class wines all the way to your heart’s content. Now your energy is high. Your chakras are in balance. And for a brief, fleeting, and perfect pink moment, all is calm in the world. Please note: Our April 2022 dates are five days / four nights and you will stay at two hotels. TERRAIN: FLAT TO UNDULATING
The terrain is varied including gradual descending on a bike path, flat riding along the ocean, and a few short climbs and undulating roads in Ojai, Santa Barbara, and Los Olivos. The short options feature the least hilly terrain while the avid options involve more hills. Ojai to Santa Barbara is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Type 3 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer.
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities are not included in the trip price. Some non-riding options on this trip are:

  • Tour the Old Mission of Santa Barbara
  • Go Kayaking or Surfing
  • Day trip to the Channel Islands

See itinerary for specific daily ride distances and elevation options. On all of our vacations, Trek Travel seeks to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

Averages and totals are calculated from our "Today’s Ride" options for our 6-day itinerary.

Arriving

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays.

We recommend flying into Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) in Goleta, approximately eight miles from downtown Santa Barbara. From just outside baggage claim you can take a cab to the meeting location. Cab rides from the airport to downtown will cost approximately $50. You may contact S R Transportation at 805-708-1403 to prearrange a taxi. Please be sure to mention that you are a guest of Trek Travel.

Due to better connections from most major cities, you may alternatively fly into Los Angeles (LAX) and take the Santa Barbara Airbus to Santa Barbara. Visit www.SBAirBus.com for more information. You may also book a private car service through S R Transportation at 805-708-1403 for approximately $275 one way. Again, please be sure to mention that you are a guest of Trek Travel.

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Hotel Californian (6 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101) at 11:30 AM on the first day of the trip. Once everyone has arrived, the group will take a shuttle to Ojai, California.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, the Ojai Valley Inn (855-697-8780), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.

Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

In an average year Santa Barbara enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. Expect temperatures in the mid-60s to upper 70s during the day and the mid-40s to mid-50s at night. In Ojai, sitting further inland within a valley, you can expect very warm temperatures during the summer months with averages 20 degrees higher. Please prepare for a large disparity in temperatures. Rain is rare, but there is always a chance, and morning fog on the coast generally causes cooler temperatures until it burns off. Packing List

Before and After Your Trip
