Ojai to Santa Barbara

California's Central Coast

Enjoy 6 days of cycling California's Central Coast, and experience every morsel it has to offer.

From Ojai's "pink moment" when the sun showers the mountains in early evening light, to Santa Barbara's magical coastline, to the wine region of the Santa Ynez Valley - you'll see, touch, taste, smell and savor it all. First we spend two nights in Ojai, a funky bohemian town that invites you to slow down and take it all in. Sink into luxury at the award-winning Ojai Valley Inn & Spa and take advantage of the pool, spa and other amenities. Pedal along quiet roads as you take in the scenery. Pause along the way to sample extra virgin olive oil made from 135 year old trees. Savor the local wines and enjoy fresh, carefully crafted meals. Then, we head for Santa Barbara, the American Riviera, our home for the remainder of the trip. Look for dolphins as you ride along the coast, dip your toes in the sand and soak in the refreshing sea breeze. Enjoy a room with a view of the ocean at the newly renovated Santa Barbara Inn. Ride high above the sea and take in the show-stopping views of the coast, then unwind and enjoy the shops and trendy food and drink scene that Santa Barbara has to offer. No trip to California is complete without a visit to wine country, so we whisk you to the quaint town of Los Olivos for a day trip where you will pedal through the vine-covered hills and learn about the nuances of Pinot, Syrah, and other vintages of the area. Luxury and style…it’s all yours on this incredible journey through the Central Coast of California.

Afterward, head over to the tasting room and gift shop for some keepsakes and delicious reminders of our visit. If you are up for some additional miles this afternoon, take on the impressive climb up Hwy 33 outside of Ojai, but don't forget to stop and take some photos along the way. Hwy 33 is known for its beauty, snaking its way through the Ojai Valley between mountain peaks. This afternoon you'll have time to explore the town on your own or discover one of the many hotel amenities available, like a round of golf, massage at the award winning spa (please note: advanced reservations are recommended and cost is not included in trip price), complimentary yoga and more. Regardless of what you choose, when the bells sound just before sunset, take a seat to capture the "pink moment" where the sun bathes the Topatopa mountains in vibrant, lavender-pink hues as it descends across the Pacific Ocean. FAQs

Trip Changes

Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer each and every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

  • Rider Type | 2
  • Average Daily Mileage | 25
  • Terrain | Undulating
  • Average Daily Elevation | 1,190 ft.

On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Ojai to Santa Barbara is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Type 3 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is widely varied, from flat, oceanside riding to rolling hills, and the steeper climbs around Santa Barbara and Ojai. The routes are designed so the harder riding is available on avid routes and the shorter rides feature the least hilly terrain. See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.

In an average year Santa Barbara enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. Expect temperatures in the mid 60s to upper 70s during the day and the mid 40s to mid 50s at night. Ojai, sitting further inland within a valley, you can expect very warm temperatures during the summer months with averages 20 degrees higher. Please prepare for a large disparity in temperatures. Rain is rare, but there is always a chance. Morning fog on the coast generally causes cooler temperatures until it burns off.

On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information. Some non-riding options on this trip are:

  • Olive Oil Tasting
  • Wine Tasting
  • Spa

For an additional fee you may request to upgrade to the brand new Trek Emonda SLR with Shimano Di2 Electronic shifting or Bontrager Aeolus carbon wheels for the ultimate riding experience. Contact our trip consultants for more details.

If you’re going we’re going on almost all our trips. Trips with 1 guest booked are guaranteed to run. Select trips like Cross Country, Race and Special Edition trips require a minimum number of guests to run and are not guaranteed until that number is reached. Contact your Trip Consultant for more details.

In the event that a departure has low enrollment, we will notify guests at 60-90 days before departure to give the option to select a different date with more guests booked. Please do not reserve airfare before confirming your Trek Travel trip.

When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation letter is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start you will receive an email containing a trip start meeting location reminder and any last minute information that you will need to know before your trip. Once you arrive at your destination Trek Travel staff will brief you on the day-to-day plan for the trip and provide you with daily route guides and a detailed map allowing you to ride with complete confidence and independence.
