Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Hotel Californian at 11:30 AM on the first day of the trip. After a 45-minute shuttle to Ojai, you’ll get acquainted with your fellow travelers over a signature Trek Travel picnic prepared by your guides, complete with local, seasonal ingredients. Afterward, your guides will spend some time familiarizing you with your Trek bicycle to ensure a comfortable fit for the week. Then it’s time for a warm-up spin in the Ojai Valley which will end at your exquisite accommodations for the next two nights -- the Ojai Valley Inn. This resort is one of Travel & Leisure’s World’s Best Hotels and is a favorite among our most discerning guests, perfect for friends, couples and groups looking for some carefree, timeworn magic. This evening, we'll treat you to drinks and a sumptuous dinner of ever changing, locally sourced, Californian cuisine at The Oak, overlooking the beautifully manicured grounds of the Inn. As the sun sets, pause to bask in the glow of Ojai's "pink moment" where the sun bathes the Topa Topa mountains in vibrant, lavender-pink hues as it descends across the Pacific Ocean.

Welcome to your first full day of Ojai tranquility. You'll ride the Pixie tangerine and Valencia orange-lined roads around this boho bedroom community, underneath the lumbering mountains surrounding this small valley on our way to Ojai Olive Oil Company. Sample these olive oils, freshly pressed and fragrant, and you may never buy another brand. Our olive oil expert, Alice, is a transplant from another time, and she’ll teach us the backstory of how this region became a unique supplier of premium oils. Afterward, head over to the tasting room and gift shop for some keepsakes and delicious reminders of our visit. Today is your chance to stroll along the Ojai’s Spanish-style shopping arcade, with its artsy shops beckoning you in, while freshly-pressed, local olive oils and honey compete for your palette’s attention. For lunch today, you get to choose from Ojai’s plethora of interesting options. If you are up for more riding, head out for a gradual climb along Highway 33 toward Wheeler Springs. This afternoon you'll have time to explore the town on your own or discover one of the many hotel amenities available, like a round of golf, massage at the award-winning spa (please note: advanced reservations are recommended and cost is not included in trip price), yoga and more. Regardless of what you choose, when the bells sound just before sunset, take a seat to capture the pink moment once again. Tonight, you'll enjoy dinner at one of our favorite, top rated restaurants in Ojai.

Slowly awaken your senses over a cup of coffee and incredible views of the surrounding mountains. You have one last chance to soak it all in before departing for the sea. After breakfast, we'll take the bike path toward Ventura and then head north along the seashore, toward Santa Barbara. Today's route offers captivating views of the ocean and you’re sure to see surfers riding some waves. As the marine layer burns off, you may even get a peek at the Channel Islands just a few miles from the coast. Maybe you’ll even be lucky enough to spot a whale or dolphins along the way. We’ll roll up to a casual beachside grill for a delicious lunch, and if you haven’t had a fish taco yet, now is the time! After lunch, we'll continue our ocean-side cruise to Hotel Californian, in the heart of Santa Barbara. This surf city is the nexus of sun, sand, shopping and style, with high-end elegant villas nestled between quiet streets worn down by beach cruisers and flip-flops. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Opt for a nap by the pool, a walk along the ocean or to explore the many shops of Santa Barbara. Be sure to ask your guides for their favorite dining hot spots in town, as dinner tonight is up to you!

Following a delicious breakfast, we'll head out for a full day of exploring the American Riviera. Pedaling along the beach, you'll enjoy the refreshing coastal breeze before heading up State Street toward Skofield Park. You'll pass by Santa Barbara's most famous cultural and historic landmark, the Old Mission, as you head toward the mountains. If you are up for a serious climb, take on the famed Gibraltar Road, snaking high above the coastline and providing eagle-eye views of the ocean and city below. The views continue to be dazzling as we descend back into town where you are free to enjoy lunch at a cafe of your choosing. We highly recommend you top it off with an espresso from our friends at Handlebar Coffee Roasters. In an average year Santa Barbara enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. Expect temperatures in the mid 60s to upper 70s during the day and the mid 40s to mid 50s at night. Ojai, sitting further inland within a valley, you can expect very warm temperatures during the summer months with averages 20 degrees higher. Please prepare for a large disparity in temperatures. Rain is rare, but there is always a chance. Morning fog on the coast generally causes cooler temperatures until it burns off. Packing List
Santa Barbara is a lively cosmopolitan city with plenty of opportunities for shopping, nightlife, and outdoor recreation. You can also explore some of southern California's other coastal cities, including Ventura, Onxard, and Los Angeles, which is located approximately 90 minutes south of Santa Barbara.
