Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Hotel Californian. We'll start off with a bike fitting session before we set off for our first ride. Today’s relaxing warm-up ride features a mix of bike paths, views of the Pacific Ocean and pedaling the palm-lined streets of the exclusive Hope Ranch neighborhood. Choose to end your ride when we reach our lunch destination or put in a few more miles with a loop up to Skofield Park. This evening, we'll board a boat and enjoy social hour while cruising the Santa Barbara shoreline. Enjoy the sights and cool ocean breeze while your guides will fill you in on the details for the rest of the weekend. Afterwards, we will head out for a memorable dinner at one of our favorite Santa Barbara restaurants.

After a 45 minute shuttle this morning, we’ll enjoy a lovely ride through the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country. Countless grape varieties flourish here thanks to the micro-climates created by ocean breezes sweeping in off the Pacific and traveling eastward down the valleys, which are ringed by the Santa Ynez and San Rafael mountain ranges. Enjoy the views and notice how the landscape changes as you pedal from one vineyard to the next. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch at Kenneth Volk vineyards, where you can sample Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria appellation. Afterwards, continue pedaling or take a ride in the van as we cross back into the Santa Ynez Valley appellation, known for Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet as well as Rhone and Italian varietals. You can sample additional vintages at wineries you pass along the way or in one of the many tasting rooms in Los Olivos. After shuttling back to Santa Barbara, you are free to explore town and enjoy dinner at a restaurant of your choice tonight.

Today you'll head out for a full day of exploring the American Riviera. You'll pedal past Santa Barbara's most famous cultural and historic landmark, the Old Mission, as you head toward the mountains. If you’re up for a challenge, you can take on the classic Gibraltar Road climb, where the views only get better the further you ascend. After the ride, the rest of the day is yours to discover all that Santa Barbara has to offer. Enjoy lunch at one of the many downtown cafes and bistros, and then shop, pamper yourself with a spa treatment (advance reservations recommended), visit the Old Mission Santa Barbara, or try stand up paddle boarding, kayaking or surfing. Please note these optional activities are not included in the trip price, but your guides will happily assist you with making arrangements. This evening we will gather for a final social hour and dinner at Blackbird, the Hotel Californian’s signature restaurant, featuring artfully displayed Mediterranean-influenced cuisine with an emphasis on local, hyper-seasonal ingredients.

This is our last morning in Santa Barbara, so make sure you drink it all in. Soak up the last rays of sunshine by the beach, the pool, or put in a few final miles on the bike. If you prefer to ride, you can take an easy spin along the coast to Carpinteria where you can savor a last look at the waves before heading back to Santa Barbara. If you haven't yet tried Handlebar Coffee yet, we recommend stopping for your favorite espresso drink on your way back to the hotel. You'll then have a chance to freshen up and check out of your room before shuttling to the airport.

In an average year Santa Barbara enjoys over 300 days of sunshine. During both spring and fall, expect temperatures in the mid 60s to upper 70s during the day and the mid 40s to mid 50s at night. Rain is rare, but there is always a chance. Morning fog on the coast generally causes cooler temperatures until it burns off in the afternoon. Los Olivos is located in the valley, so it will be a few degrees warmer. Packing List
Santa Barbara is a lively cosmopolitan city with plenty of opportunities for shopping, nightlife and outdoor recreation. You can also explore some of southern California's other coastal cities, including Ventura, Onxard, or the big one, Los Angeles, which is located approximately 90 minutes south of Santa Barbara. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre and post-trip hotel:
