Additional Arrival Information
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the lobby of BessaHotel Baixa (R. Dr. Alves da Veiga 155, 4000-074 Porto) at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After a one-hour shuttle by private coach to Amarante, enjoy a welcome lunch as your guides explain how the week will unfold and provide a personalized bike fit to your Trek bike to ensure your comfort for the week. Once everyone is set, you'll head out to explore the quiet roads along the Tâmega River.
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Douro Valley bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays.
We recommend flying into Porto (OPO). Porto Airport (Francisco Sá Carneiro) is approximately 20 minutes from BessaHotel Baixa, and a taxi or Uber from the arrivals area is the most direct and comfortable option. If you prefer public transit, the Metro's E Line (Violet) connects the airport to Casa da Música in around 25 minutes, with a short taxi ride from there to the hotel.
If you plan to arrive via Lisbon, the high-speed Alfa Pendular runs frequently from Oriente or Santa Apolónia stations to Porto Campanhã in around three hours. Tickets can be purchased in advance via the Comboios de Portugal website) or app, or at station ticket offices. From Campanhã, the hotel is a 15-20 minute taxi or Uber ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Casa da Calçada (+351 255 410 830), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. You may take a taxi to the first night's hotel for approximately 100€.
Additional Departure Information
Your guides will say farewell at 11:00 AM at Torel Quinta da Vacaria before a private coach transfers you to Porto Campanhã Train Station or Porto Airport, approximately 90 minutes away. Campanhã is Porto’s main rail hub, with frequent, comfortable trains connecting to Lisbon (around 2.5–3 hours), as well as easy onward travel by taxi or Metro within Porto. If you are flying, we’ll also offer drop-off directly at Porto Airport for added convenience. We recommend booking onward trains no earlier than 2:00 PM and flights no earlier than 4:00 PM to allow for a smooth and stress-free departure.

Overview
Today the roads climb out of Amarante and into the hills above, where quiet roads and steady grades carry you toward the Douro, the terrain building with broader views as you approach the river. Those who'd prefer an easier start can take a short shuttle past the first major climbs and join the route from there. Midday brings lunch at a traditional family farm. Here meals are prepared without electricity using time-honored methods, creating simple dishes that reflect the cooking of past generations. After lunch, you descend into the Douro Valley proper, the route trending down along the river to Torel Quinta da Vacaria, the famous terraced slopes rising around you as you arrive. Drift along the Douro on a traditional rabelo
Overview
The valley floor sets the pace today, with a ride that follows the Douro past terraced vineyards and small riverside villages toward an estate lunch. You'll begin by crossing the river, an easy start before the road lifts into a steady climb away from the water. The route settles high among the terraces for a stretch, with views opening across the valley, before a gradual descent brings you back down to the river. From there, you'll follow the valley floor to Quinta de São Bernardo, a secluded family-owned estate dating to 1756, reached by crossing a small tramline and sitting directly on the banks of the Douro. Lunch here is convivial, served family-style and shaped by seasonal ingredients and estate wines. In the afternoon, board a traditional rabelo—the flat-bottomed boats that once carried wine barrels downriver—for a one-way cruise through the valley toward the hotel. A shuttle from the nearest pier completes the return. Dinner is on your own tonight in Peso da Régua, where your guides will share their favorite local spots, or the refined hotel restaurant awaits if you'd prefer a quieter evening.

Pedal to Pinhão through the Douro countryside
Overview
After lingering over your morning coffee, today's ride climbs away from the river into quieter countryside shaped by working villages and vineyards. This inland route rolls as it rises through the heart of the Douro, the views broadening as you approach the day's main climb. Those taking the shorter option can shuttle to the top to rejoin the route for the descent, with a snack stop overlooking the valley. The group reassembles in Pinhão, a charming wine town where the Pinhão River meets the Douro, and lunch is on your own with recommendations from your guides in hand. The afternoon gently follows the Douro back toward the hotel, the terraced slopes towering above you. The final evening brings everyone together for a social hour on the terrace, with time to unwind and take in the river views, followed by a guided tour and wine tasting featuring wines produced on the hotel’s own estate. The night continues with a celebratory dinner at the hotel, the Douro just below and the week’s riding behind you.
