Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Provence to Girona bike tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into Paris (CDG). From Paris, take a TGV train to Montpellier Sud de France, either from the TGV station at Charles de Gaulle Airport or from the Gare de Lyon in Paris. Please note that there are two train stations in Montpellier—the TGV and the center station (Gare de Montpellier Saint-Roch). To ensure a quicker journey, we recommend you book your ticket to arrive at the TGV station that is approximately three miles from the center station downtown. There is a frequent shuttle service for a few euros that connects the two train stations, or you can opt for a taxi (around ten euros for a fifteen-minute journey).
If you are arriving at Montpellier Airport, you can take a bus or a taxi for a few euros to reach the meeting point in Montpellier TGV station.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Montpellier Sud France train station at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. It's recommended that you bring a set of cycling clothes in your carry-on in case of lost luggage. After a quick fifteen-minute shuttle, you will arrive at L'Anse Sauvage where you can enjoy a picnic lunch as your guides explain how the trip will unfold and fit you to your Trek bike. Once everyone's bike is ready, you'll be off to explore the beautiful tracks of the South of France. Please have your riding gear in a separate bag or readily accessible, to avoid having to unpack your luggage.
If you will be late for the meeting time, or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our hotel, Zenitude Relais & Spa La Valadière (+33 4 66 40 40 10), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:30 AM at Hotel Palau Fugit. Please be sure to secure transportation to your departure airport prior to the last day of the trip. From Hotel Palau Fugit, the Girona Train Station is approximately a 15-minute walk, or taxis are also available for the short ride. Trains depart hourly to Barcelona Sants and Estació de França. For more information, consult www.renfe.com.
Once you arrive in Barcelona Sants, you may take a bus (depart every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 11:45 PM) to Terminal 1, or a train to Terminal 2. Alternatively, taxis are plentiful and operate 24 hours a day. The journey from the train station in the city center to the airport will take 20-30 minutes and cost around 35 euros.
Welcome to Provence where your gravel adventure begins!
Overview
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Montpellier-Sud de France train station on the first day of your trip. After a 15-minute private shuttle, you'll arrive at Anse Sauvage, a charming restaurant nestled in a pristine natural sanctuary along the banks of l'Etang de Méjan. After enjoying a French brunch inspired by the chef's innovative culinary creations and a brief round of introductions, your guides will outline the trip and fit you to your bike. Today's ride offers a splendid introduction to the gravel you'll encounter throughout this exciting tour. Our adventure begins with a ride through a protected reserve, where you can observe serene flamingos resting in the ponds. We'll then guide you along the seawall, across the Vic Pond, and into the fragrant pine forests, which emit a captivating aroma. A gradual ascent will reward you with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and sea before we descend to our first hotel. This evening, we'll gather for cocktails and dinner to discuss what's to come during this cycling adventure between France and Spain.

Cycle to the unique Lac du Salagou and Cirque de Mourèze
Overview
Rise and shine, and get excited! After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we'll gather for our first big ride through the countryside in South of France. Today, our route will take you to the heights of Montpellier, where you'll be treated to an unspoiled panorama of the Mediterranean Sea. Some segments of today's unpaved route are technically challenging, including a steep descent with chunky gravel, but we think you'll agree there's nothing quite like the sound of gravel beneath your wheels as you traverse these remote areas. Your guides will be prepared with delicious sandwiches from the local boulangerie for whenever you'd like to have lunch. Continuing on, your route will lead you to the shores of Lac du Salagou, a reservoir created in 1968 by the construction of a dam. One of the most distinctive features of Lac du Salagou is the surrounding reddish soil, a result of the iron-rich earth in the region. The contrast between the deep blue water and the red earth creates a visually stunning and unique landscape. Tonight's accommodation will be situated in the heart of the Cirque de Mourèze, a "chaos" of dolomite rocks sculpted by erosion over millions of years. As the day winds down, we'll come together for a group dinner on the relaxing hotel grounds, where we can share and reflect upon our experiences of the day.
