Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend you fly into Trieste and then take a train to Trieste's Central Station.
The easiest way to access Trieste Central Station and the city center from the airport is by train. The ride takes about 30 minutes and tickets cost around 5€. Trains depart from the airport approximately every 30 minutes and drop you off directly at the Central Station. For more information, visit the Trenitalia website. Alternatively you can also take bus 51 from the airport to Trieste's central bus station (located next to the train station). This ride will take you approximately one hour. Just like at any other airport, taxis are available and prices start from 75€ to the city center.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the main entrance of the Trieste Central Station (Piazza della Libertà, 9, 34135 Trieste, Italy) at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After a 30-minute shuttle to your trip's starting point in Muggia, Italy, your guides will do a bike fitting to ensure your comfort on your Trek bicycle this week. After the bike fit, you’ll hear some safety tips and a route overview before taking your first spin along the Adriatic coast, rapidly crossing the border from Italy into Slovenia. Please have your first day’s riding gear handy and separate from your other luggage to facilitate the bike fitting and ride.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Palace Portorož (+386 5 692 70 00) and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. Please note that a taxi from the airport to the trip hotel will cost approximately €150.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 11:30 AM on the final morning, following a walking tour of Rovinj. We highly recommend a post-trip stay in Rovinj to have more time to explore and enjoy this charming town, but for those with immediate travel plans, a 45-minute shuttle to Pula Airport or Pula's town center will be available.
Ride from Italy to Slovenia along the Istrian coast
Overview
Welcome to your cycling adventure spanning three countries in one week. Your guides will meet you at the main entrance of Trieste Centrale at 10:00 AM, then a brief shuttle takes you out of the city to the maritime villages near the border. In the Italian coastal town of Muggia, your bikes will be ready and waiting. After a personalized bike fit and a quick safety briefing, you’ll soon cross into Slovenia and roll along the stunning Adriatic coast, tracing seaside roads past Ankaran, Koper, and Izola. Much of the day follows the historic Parenzana Trail, a former railway turned dedicated cycling route. Leaving the trail, you’ll climb over the Piran peninsula before a rewarding descent into the resort town of Portorož. Settle in at Palace Portorož Hotel for the next two nights. This evening, the hotel welcomes you for dinner in its fine-dining restaurant, an ideal setting to gather, toast, and savor what’s ahead.

Enjoy the rural scenery in the hills of the Koper countryside
Overview
Today takes you into the hills above Portorož and into the Koper countryside, where quiet ridge roads wind through Slovenia’s Istria wine country. The terrain is a steady mix of climbs and rolling contours, with sweeping sightlines across vineyards and coastal hillsides. Along the way, your guides will share a bit of the region’s story and what grows here: Refošk, a bold local red with roots dating back to Roman times. After a breathtaking morning of climbs and ridge roads, settle in for lunch at a local tavern and take in the panorama of the terrain you’ve just ridden. In the afternoon, choose between a few more punchy hills along the ridgeline or an easier return through the valley back to the hotel. This evening is yours to decide, with time in historic Piran for a stroll and dinner as our top recommendation.

Cross the border to Croatia and cycle the Istrian Wine Trail to Poreč
Overview
Say goodbye to Slovenia and hello to Croatia as you ride out of Portorož and cross the border. Today’s route follows sections of the scenic Istrian Wine Trail through rolling hills and coastal roads lined with vineyards full of Istria’s signature grapes—Malvazija and Teran—alongside other local varietals. Watch for the region’s distinctive red clay soils, and, with a bit of luck, you may even spot the Boškarin, the indigenous Istrian ox. By late morning, you’ll roll into Poreč, a historic seaside town home to the UNESCO-listed Euphrasian Basilica, known for its stunning architecture and early Christian mosaics. Spend time exploring the old town, then enjoy a relaxed lunch at one of our recommended spots. This afternoon, a shuttle brings everyone to San Canzian Village & Hotel. Discover tranquil medieval villages and truffles, the "Gold of Istria"
Overview
Wake up in the quiet Istrian hills, then set out to explore a string of storybook villages and the region’s most prized ingredient: truffles. Your ride begins with a climb to Grožnjan, a hilltop town known for its creative spirit. Often referred to as the “artist town,” the tiny year-round population supports more than 20 art galleries and studios. From there, weave through Oprtalj’s stone streets toward the Motovun Forest. Here, a local truffle-hunting family introduces you to the “Gold of Istria” with a savory tasting lunch and cooking class. Afterward, opt for a scenic ride back to the hotel or hop in the shuttle to leave time to unwind. Riders looking for a little more time in the saddle can take the Avid option, adding an extra, winding climb back up to Grožnjan before returning.
