We loved Texas Hill Country. The biking was amazing....wide open roads with no cars! We had not expected that at all. Loved riding around the windy roads through the ranches, past cows and sheep. The wide open blue sky, the friendly people...it was terrific. The live music in the town of Fredericksburg was also fantastic. I would love to return and do this trip again.

Additional Arrival Information
We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the start of your Texas Hill Country cycling tour, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly into the San Antonio International Airport (SAT). Once you have arrived in San Antonio, there are several options for getting to your pre-trip accommodations. If you wish to schedule a shuttle prior to arrival we recommend reaching out to zTrip (855-699-8747); the cost is about $30-35 for a transfer from the San Antonio International Airport to our pickup hotel, Canopy by Hilton. Alternatively, you may call a taxi from the airport upon arrival for your transportation. If you need a place to leave your personal vehicle for the week, you may valet your vehicle with the bellman at the Canopy by Hilton for $55 to $65/day (the rate fluctuates). There is also a public parking deck across the street from Canopy by Hilton with a rate of $32 per 24-hour period (the Market Street Garage) or The Houston Street Garage, about a 5 minute walk away, has a rate of $8/day.
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the lobby of Canopy by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk (123 North St. Marys St, San Antonio) at 10:00 AM on the first day of the trip. Please arrive to the meeting location with your cycling gear packed in a day bag, separate from your main luggage. We encourage you to come dressed in your cycling clothes and comfortable walking shoes. A one-hour shuttle will take you to the town of Comfort, Texas. After lunch with the group, you will receive a personal bike fit to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride. Your guides will then give you a few pointers for riding in the Hill Country before you head off on your first ride to Fredericksburg.
If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. If you cannot reach them, please call our hotel, Albert Hotel (830-362-1300), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. Should you be in need of transportation from San Antonio to Fredericksburg we recommend LyftnLand Shuttle Service (830-733-7345, www.lyftnland.com) or Hill Country Private Car (830-992-9416). The cost is approximately $150 to $175 for one-way transportation from San Antonio.
Additional Departure Information
You will say farewell to your guides at 12:00 PM at Albert Hotel. Your guides will offer a shuttle to the San Antonio Airport after check out, and this shuttle will arrive at the airport at approximately 1:30 PM. If you wish to return to downtown San Antonio to retrieve your personal vehicle or extend your stay in the area, your guides can drop you off at Canopy by Hilton San Antonio Riverwalk following the airport drop. It is about 15 minutes from the San Antonio Airport to Canopy by Hilton.

Continue your ride through picturesque farmland and ranches before arriving in the charming hamlet of Luckenbach, TX, where “Everybody’s Somebody.” Established in 1849 as a trading post, Luckenbach is one of the oldest settlements in Gillespie County and one of the least populated! Take a step back in time as you explore the Post Office, General Store, and beer hall that was first opened in 1886. After the ride, you'll have time to explore Fredericksburg on your own for lunch, then take some time to enjoy the secluded, cabana-lined pool at the hotel, or schedule a visit to the on-site spa (spa appointments should be scheduled well in advance, and are not included in the cost of your trip). For those interested in history, we recommend a visit to highly impactful National Museum of the Pacific War, a short walk from the hotel. This evening the group will walk to an early dinner with drinks at Granite House Lounge, which serves delicious versions of traditional favorites such as Chicken Marsala and Shrimp and Grits. Terrain: Hilly
The road surface quality in Fredericksburg is predominantly comprised of chip seal surfaces and the routes feature numerous cattle guards. The terrain is consistently rolling, on quiet, narrow roads. Many climbs are relatively short and average around 6% so the climbing is accumulated throughout the ride. Texas Hill Country is best suited for our Type 2 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills. For those eager to experience every mile but mindful of their physical limits, our electric bike option offers a comfortable and enjoyable solution. Type 3 or 4 Riders will really enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. Averages and totals are calculated from our "Today's Ride" options.

Additionally, San Antonio boasts a diverse cultural scene, with attractions like the San Antonio Museum of Art and the historic Majestic Theatre. Where to Stay
The Fredericksburg area enjoys generally warm, dry weather, which makes riding in this region particularly enjoyable. In March and April expect highs in the mid-70's to low 80's (24-28ºC), and lows in the 50's (10-15ºC). Early May sees warmer temps in the high 80's (around 30ºC) and a slightly higher chance of rain. The late fall can see the highs range from the low 70's to low 80's ºF (20-28ºC), while the lows are generally between 50ºF and 60ºF (4-10ºC). We always recommend bringing along riding layers and even rain gear so you can keep riding comfortably throughout the day.
