Ride from Maine’s remote gravel in the North Woods to the Victorian charm of Bar Harbor and the carriage trails of Acadia National Park.

The name Acadia once described this entire stretch of Maine's coast and interior, long before it lent its name to a national park—a fitting backdrop for a ride that connects both halves of the state. You'll pedal through the North Woods and the Appalachian Mountain Club's 100-Mile Wilderness, an expansive network of gravel roads where moose and other local wildlife roam, pausing to hike Mount Kineo's cliffside lookout. As the roads turn toward Bar Harbor and the coast, Acadia National Park's historic carriage roads weave through forest and along the Atlantic shoreline. Settle in for local catch and fresh lobster, over sweeping harbor views. This cycling vacation joins two distinct sides of Maine into one remarkable route, capturing New England as you've always imagined it.

Greenville, Maine
Greenville Inn
Explorer

Set in the heart of Greenville perched above Moosehead Lake, this storied inn wraps you in quarter-sawn oak and English-tiled fireplaces, the kind of craftsmanship that gives a room its own natural warmth. Built in 1890 by lumber baron William Shaw, the mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its porches invite you to linger over the sunset on the lake.

Bar Harbor, Maine
Atlantic Oceanside Hotel
Explorer

Once the estate of Klondike gold baron Sir Harry Oakes, this twelve-acre stretch of oceanfront still carries a sense of unhurried grandeur, just one mile from Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor. Know Before You Go!

We want you to be fully prepared for your cycling vacation of a lifetime. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless. Each Trek Travel trip is unique to ensure maximum enjoyment every time.

Your Trip Need to Knows:

  • Rider level: The terrain on this trip falls under our classification of Level 2 / 3 as it relates to distance and elevation gain for all “Today’s” ride options. The gravel conditions around Greenville present gravel road conditions that are dynamic by nature. The gravel surface is suited for riders who want to try riding gravel but have confident bike-handling skills. See our “Rider Information” section above for more information.
  • Packing for Hiking: Your Day 2 hike includes a gradual climb up a dirt path that presents some rocks and roots. Sturdy hiking shoes and trekking poles are advised.
  • Nature breaks: Getting off the beaten path means there may be limited services during gravel rides. There may not be traditional restrooms available on some routes, but there will be plenty of trees.
  • Route changes: Gravel roads are dynamic by nature. Road surfaces change throughout the year depending on maintenance (grading, adding new gravel) and weather, particularly rain. Our guides constantly monitor road conditions and may change the routes as needed to provide the best possible riding experience.

Via PayPal (please have this account set up in advance when possible) or with your guest services representative on the phone before or after the trip.
