Pedal from Perthshire's pastoral valleys into the dramatic glens of Glencoe, cross by ferry to the remote peninsulas of the West Highlands.

From the banks of the River Tay to the shores of Loch Linnhe, this six-day guided cycling tour carries you into the heart of Scotland. The road enters Perthshire, the gateway to the Highlands, climbing into the shadow of Schiehallion through pastoral valleys before deepening into the dramatic glens of Glencoe. A ferry crossing delivers you to the remote, rugged coastline of the West Highland peninsulas. Between the miles, a whisky distillery in Pitlochry and farm-to-fork lunches sourced from Highland estates bring real flavor to the days, while a hike to a hidden loch amid towering forest wraps up your week on foot. Evenings unfold at two distinctive properties, a grand Victorian mansion in Pitlochry and a traditional inn on the quiet shores of Loch Leven, each ending with a warm Scottish welcome and a wee dram of local whisky.

Trip Wows
  • Ride through Perthshire, known as the gateway to the Scottish Highlands, on quiet waterfront lanes that thread between lochs and glens

  • Enter glacier-carved Glencoe, one of Scotland's most dramatic landscapes, its sheer peaks rising straight from the valley floor

  • Board a ferry across Loch Linnhe to reach the remote peninsulas and coastline of the western Highlands

  • Taste a dram of single malt at Blair Athol, one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries, dating to 1798

  • Hike to a hidden loch ringed by towering conifers, with the Pap of Glencoe reflected in the still water

Reaching the West Highland Peninsulas

Activity Information

Hotels
Pitlochry, Scotland
Pine Trees Hotel
Explorer

A grand Victorian mansion built in 1892, known as Tom-na-Monachan, or Hill of the Monks, sits within ten acres of woodland on Pitlochry’s edge. Wood paneling, stained glass, and open fireplaces lead you to warmly decorated rooms and Fauna, the restaurant, drawing on Scotland’s fields, forests, and shores. Spend time wandering the grounds, or venture out to the town’s independent shops and local whisky distillery.

Glencoe, Scotland
The Glencoe Inn
Comfort

Perched on the shores of Loch Leven, a sea inlet framed by mountains, this traditional inn offers log fires, a whisky snug, and views across the water to the distinctive peak, the Pap of Glencoe, at the mouth of the glen. At the hidden spa, guests can quietly soak in the outdoor hot tub or unwind in the sauna. The Glencoe’s dining room provides a sociable atmosphere as a warm contrast to the stillness of the glen outside.

Know Before You Go!

We want you to be fully prepared for your cycling vacation of a lifetime. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless. Each Trek Travel trip is unique to ensure maximum enjoyment every time.

Your Trip Need to Knows:

  • UK entry requirements: Travelers entering the United Kingdom now need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This digital permission, costing £16, allows multiple journeys and is valid for two years or until your passport expires. Approval typically takes about 3 days, so it’s best to apply early. Apply via the UK ETA app or online at www.gov.uk.
  • Riding on the left: In Scotland, cyclists follow traffic on the left side of the road. If this differs from what you’re used to, don’t worry—your guides will remind you along the way. Take extra care when riding, crossing intersections, and navigating roundabouts.
  • E-Bikes: E-bike speeds vary worldwide due to local regulations, which determine how fast you can ride with assistance. See the E-bike speed chart to see the maximum speeds allowed in each region.
  • Road conditions: Roads are typically in good shape with minimal traffic, but it’s important to ride with extra care on wet surfaces, especially if rain is in the forecast.
  • Packing: Layering is the best way to regulate your body temperature. This tried-and-true strategy is all about slipping layers on and off as your activity level or the weather changes. Rain gear is a must.
  • Air conditioning: Scotland’s cooler climate and commitment to sustainability mean that most hotels don’t offer air conditioning, except in larger city properties. During the occasional warm spell, simply opening your windows is usually enough to keep your room comfortable.

Before and After Your Trip

FAQs

Summer temperatures range from the 50s to 70s ºF (13-24ºC). Always remember that rain is possible at any time of the year–daily Scottish weather is very unpredictable! It’s a good idea to bring a light rain jacket, as well as layers.
