Dolomites Bike Tour
This was a fantastic first Trek Travel experience for me. The mountain scenery was awe inspiring, quite achingly beautiful, and the climbs were a strong challenge for my capabilities. I feel refreshed and accomplished. I cannot thank Miqui and Pol enough. They were fantastically supportive, kind and generous with their comments and time. I felt safe and secure in their capable hands and I will absolutely book another Trek Travel trip again.

Welcome to the beginning of your Discover Dolomites adventure! Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Belluno Train Station at 11:00 AM and together you will take a one-hour shuttle ride to your trip hotel in Alleghe, your picturesque home for the duration of the trip. After a short round of introductions, your guides will fit you to your Trek bike and then present you with a casual buffet-style lunch at the hotel before hitting the road! The ride today features the legendary Passo Falzarego, a great introduction to the Dolomites and a famous climb in the Giro d'Italia. Enjoy the ascent as you tackle the hairpin turns, and take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding Dolomite peaks. At the top, you'll turn around and head back to the hotel spending the rest of the afternoon settling into your new home for the week. Relax or take a short walk around the alpine lake as you enjoy the gorgeous views of the surrounding peaks, including the imposing Monte Civetta towering over Alleghe. We'll dine as a group at the restaurant at our hotel with stunning views of the lake.

You'll descend to the mountain town of Moena, after which you're welcome to stop for a well-deserved packed lunch provided by your guides. Once back in the saddle, you'll encounter a sustained gentle climb before the gradients steepen in the final miles. The next pass is Passo Fedaia, with the beautiful Fedaia lake nestled at its peak, near the Marmolada glacier. While there may not be a mountaintop café, your guides will cheer you on and offer refreshments before continuing the ride. Descend the mountain and return to your hotel for a relaxing afternoon. The terrain is challenging and climbs can range from three to 15 miles in length at a variety of grades. The routes include an average of two to three climbs per day. Our Dolomites bike tour is best suited for our Type 4 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also accommodate Type 3 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Type 4+ Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer.
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
This destination is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. Because of the terrain and/or remoteness of the hotel and riding routes, there are few, if any, non-riding options available. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van and/or at the hotels on the trip. Due to this, we strongly discourage non-riders from this destination. As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866-464-8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:
  • Provence
  • Tuscany
  • Prague to Vienna

See itinerary for specific daily ride distances and elevation options. On all of our vacations, Trek Travel seeks to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

Daytime temperatures can reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) and can increase upwards from there in the low-lying valleys. Temperatures and conditions can change quickly and evenings tend to be cool and fresh. Mountain weather conditions can change dramatically from one hour to the next. For example, in just a few minutes a thunder storm can roll in when the sky was perfectly clear, and in just a few hours the temperatures can drop from extremely hot temperatures to temperatures that are below freezing. Therefore, we recommend bringing a variety of cycling gear, from cold weather, to wet weather, and warm weather. Please, be prepared by bringing layers for cool descents and rain gear for possible rain showers. Layers are key when riding in the mountains! Packing List

Before and After Your Trip

before

Before: Belluno, Italy

Belluno, the capital of Alto Adige, is a beautiful city with a rich history. Piazza Duomo features a 16th-century cathedral and a medieval baptistry as well as a 12th-century tower that remains from the original castle. There are Renaissance-style palazzos and plenty of cafés for people watching around the Piazza dei Martiri. The town also features a museum with a collection of archaeological artifacts and 16th- and 17th-century paintings by local artists. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

after

After: Venice, Italy

A timeless city, of ancient origins and traditions that is known to enchant its visitors with its sublime beauty, should not be missing from your travel list.

Built on more than 100 small islands and surrounded by the vast Venetian Lagoon, Venice has no roads, but a network of canals flowing through it, serviced by small gondolas and water taxis. The most famous canal, the Grand Canal, is in the heart of the city and it's lined with picture-perfect Renaissance and Gothic palaces that will transport you to another era.

There is a reason that Venice was nicknamed "La Serenissima", meaning "the most serene one". It's unique, dreamy, romantic, dramatic, and positively intoxicating for anyone with a spirit of discovery and adventure. If you wish to spend a few days in Venice, we recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:
