Glacier Bike Tour & Glamping with Under Canvas

Glamping and Montana's Glacier National Park

Have you ever wanted to try glamping? What better place to do it than Big Sky Country! Join us for this special edition Glacier National Park bike tour and glamping vacation with our friends at Under Canvas®. Glacier National Park isn't just a protected wildlife site in northwest Montana. It's one of Mother Nature's most prized possessions, crammed end-to-end with snow-capped peaks, blue skies, moose, bears, mountain goats, evergreens, and pure inspiration. As you ride the smooth pavement of Going-to-the-Sun Road, your soundtrack will include the echo of Bird Woman Falls and the vast silences of the hinterland. Returning to camp each afternoon, unwind by the campfire with a game of horseshoes, and as you retire to your tent for the evening, your lullaby will be a sea of stars, crystal clear and glittering. We'll explore this magical landscape on two wheels and raft the rapids of the Flathead River. What are you waiting for? There's no better time to visit this wild country and bear witness to the 25 glaciers that still remain. So, pack up your favorite camp shirt, your coziest pajamas, and your all-weather cycling gear and get going—it's time for an adventure as vast as the wilderness itself. Please note: Our 2023 dates and itinerary are five days / four nights and you will stay at two hotels. See the 2023 itinerary tab and dates below. We're riding Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is one of the most scenic roads in America. This engineering marvel was completed in 1932. It is narrow and windy, snaking around mountainsides to give you magnificent views of the surrounding peaks from every angle. We'll begin with an early 30-minute shuttle to Lake McDonald Lodge. From here, you'll climb past waterfalls, rivers, wildflowers, cedar forests, and hopefully some of the local wildlife abundant in this stunning refuge. You will surely want to stop at some of the many viewpoints along the way as we make our way to the top of Logan Pass (6,646 ft) and the Continental Divide. Enjoy the epic descent back to Lake McDonald where we will regroup and shuttle to a local cafe for a celebratory lunch. Under Canvas® - Glacier

Coram, Montana

Explorer Accommodation | On Trek Travel's Glacier National Park bike tour & glamping vacation, you'll stay at Under Canvas®, conveniently located just a few miles from the western entrance of Glacier National Park. Your Deluxe tent is built on a wooden platform and comes complete with a cozy king size bed, luxurious linens, and a full bathroom. Suite tents are a bit larger and also include a queen sofa bed. A cot can be added to either tent. Under Canvas is committed to connecting you with nature and making your stay comfortable, while also limiting the camp's environmental impact. To conserve water, there are no bathtubs, but pull chain showers offer hot water for bathing. They use solar power as much as possible including to illuminate the forest paths that connect the tents. Tents do not have electricity. Instead they have battery powered lanterns with USB ports for charging phones and wood stoves to keep your tent warm at night. Never fear, the extremely helpful staff at Under Canvas will teach you how to start a fire when you check in. And there are communal bathrooms on property with electricity if needed for a hair dryer or the like. Tents do not have potable water, but there is water available at the lobby tent and various locations throughout the camp. No food is allowed in the tents (the property is surrounded by an electric fence, but wildlife is abundant). There is no kitchen on site, but daily breakfast will be provided by your guides each morning near the lobby tent. We suggest adding a reusable water bottle, external charger, and your slippers to your packing list and planning to unplug for a few days as there is no wifi at any Under Canvas camp. We hope you enjoy this unique glamping experience! Please note the camp is located near Highway 2 and train tracks. Ear plugs are suggested for sleeping, but if you are a light sleeper, this may not be the location for you.

TOTAL ELEVATION:

TERRAIN: FLAT TO MOUNTAINOUS
The terrain is varied from flat to mountainous. Most rides are relatively flat, with the exception of the third day which features a significant climb in mountainous terrain. Going-to-the-Sun Road includes a 10-mile climb on a narrow mountain road with some tight corners. The average grade is 5.5%. While traffic is constant on Going-to-the-Sun Road, it is slow moving, cyclists are common, and we ride single file so cars can pass. Our Glacier Under Canvas® bike trip is best suited for our Type 2 and Type 3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Options are available for riding more or fewer miles, and your Trek Travel guides and support vehicle are always close behind!
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
Our Glacier National Park Bike Tour & Glamping vacation is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van. There are non-riding options available such as hiking, horseback riding, canoeing/kayaking, and rafting. Non-riding options need to be scheduled before your trip - please contact one of our Trip Consultants at 866-464-8735 for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities (with the exception of rafting) are not included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information.

See itinerary for specific daily ride distances and elevation options. On all of our vacations, Trek Travel seeks to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

    Before & After: Whitefish, Montana

If you are able to spend a few extra days after your trip exploring the area, the mountain town of Whitefish is a great place to relax and enjoy the laid-back attitude of a Montana summer. You might choose to shop or check out a local cafe downtown, relax at the Whitefish City Beach on the shores of gorgeous Whitefish Lake, or explore the options for hiking and mountain biking at Whitefish Mountain Resort. The Resort also features an alpine slide and zip-line tours during the summer months. There are also opportunities for fly fishing lessons, horseback riding, and whitewater rafting adventures within a short drive of Whitefish. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre and post trip hotel.
