Your adventure begins when you meet your Trek Travel guides at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake at 10:00 AM. After a shuttle to Coram, you'll enjoy a picnic lunch, followed by a personal bike fitting session to ensure a comfortable ride on your Trek bicycle. Today's ride will take you to Lake McDonald, the largest lake in Glacier National Park. This glacial lake is surrounded by the larger mountains in the park and filled with rainbow colored rocks. It's truly a beautiful introduction to Glacier and if you are feeling up to it, you can jump in and cool off in some glacier water before hoping back on the bike and heading to Under Canvas. At Under Canvas, you'll trade a hotel room for a safari-style tent complete with an extremely comfortable bed, luxury linens, an ensuite bathroom, and a wood burning stove to keep you warm at night. The staff will help you settle in so you can experience glamping under the stars in Big Sky country. Your guides will fill you in on what lies ahead during social hour tonight and afterwards you'll enjoy a delicious dinner at the historic Belton Chalet.

Today's Ride:

Coram to Lake McDonald and Return
Approximately 20 mi | 33 km and 1,105 ft | 337 m

Accommodations:

Under Canvas®

Included Meals:

Lunch | Social Hour | Dinner

We'll get an early start today, but trust us, it will be well worth it. After a breakfast picnic prepared by your faithful guides, we'll hop in the van for a 30-minute shuttle to Lake McDonald Lodge. From here, you'll pedal your way up Going to the Sun Road. This engineering marvel was completed in 1932. It is narrow and windy, snaking around mountainsides to give you magnificent views of the surrounding peaks from every angle. You'll climb past waterfalls, rivers, wildflowers, cedar forests, and hopefully some of the local wildlife abundant in this stunning refuge. You will surely want to stop at some of the many viewpoints along the way as we climb to the top of Logan Pass (6,646 ft / 2025 m) and the Continental Divide. After a short break for photos and to add some layers, enjoy the epic descent down one of the most scenic roads in America. Your ride ends back at Lake McDonald where we will regroup before heading to a local cafe for a celebratory lunch. Afterwards, we'll shuttle back to Under Canvas to enjoy a beautiful meal under the stars.

Today's Ride:

Lake McDonald to Logan Pass and Return
Approximately 43 mi | 49 km and 3,700 ft | 1,127 m

Today, after breakfast, we'll venture back into Glacier National Park for an educational day hike led by a guide from the Glacier Institute. We'll drive up Going to the Sun Road, learning about the geology, wildlife, and cultural history of the area along the way. Your hike begins at the top of Logan Pass where you will either tackle the Highline Trail or the hike to Hidden Lake. Both come with spectacular views, and our own private guide who will share information about the alpine environment, wildlife habitat and geology that surrounds you. Please note, the park restricts hiking groups to 14 people, so if we have a large group, we'll divide up and do separate hikes. You'll enjoy a packed lunch on the trail. Once back at the trailhead, we'll head down Going to the Sun Road and make our way to the town of Whitefish, our home for the next two nights. Tonight is yours to explore Whitefish and dine at a restaurant of your choosing.

Those who brave the climb will be rewarded with panoramic views of the peaks of Glacier National Park from the ceiling of Big Sky Country. Don't have a climb in your legs? Use the afternoon to indulge in a spa treatment, paddle on the lake, or explore town instead. Lunch is on your own in one of Whitefish’s many cafes today. Under Canvas® - Glacier

Coram, Montana

Explorer Accommodation | On Trek Travel's Glacier National Park bike tour & glamping vacation, you'll stay at Under Canvas®, conveniently located just a few miles from the western entrance of Glacier National Park. Your Deluxe tent is built on a wooden platform and comes complete with a cozy king size bed, luxurious linens, and a full bathroom. Suite tents are a bit larger and also include a queen sofa bed. A cot can be added to either tent. Under Canvas is committed to connecting you with nature and making your stay comfortable, while also limiting the camp's environmental impact. To conserve water, there are no bathtubs, but pull chain showers offer hot water for bathing. They use solar power as much as possible including to illuminate the forest paths that connect the tents. Tents do not have electricity. Instead they have battery powered lanterns with USB ports for charging phones and wood stoves to keep your tent warm at night. Never fear, the extremely helpful staff at Under Canvas will teach you how to start a fire when you check in. And there are communal bathrooms on property with electricity if needed for a hair dryer or the like. Tents do not have potable water, but there is water available at the lobby tent and various locations throughout the camp. No food is allowed in the tents (the property is surrounded by an electric fence, but wildlife is abundant). There is no kitchen on site, but daily breakfast will be provided by your guides each morning near the lobby tent. We suggest adding a reusable water bottle, external charger, and your slippers to your packing list and planning to unplug for a few days as there is no wifi at any Under Canvas camp. We hope you enjoy this unique glamping experience! Please note the camp is located near Highway 2 and train tracks. Ear plugs are suggested for sleeping, but if you are a light sleeper, this may not be the location for you.

TERRAIN: FLAT TO MOUNTAINOUS
The terrain is varied from flat to mountainous. Most rides are relatively flat, with the exception of the second day which features a significant climb in mountainous terrain. Going-to-the-Sun Road includes a 10-mile climb on a narrow mountain road with some tight corners. The average grade is 5.5%. While traffic is constant on Going-to-the-Sun Road, it is slow moving, cyclists are common, and we ride single file so cars can pass. Our Glacier Under Canvas® bike trip is best suited for our Type 2 and Type 3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also accommodate Type 1 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Those who wish to ride every mile but are concerned about their physical ability may want to try our electric bike option–you still get a workout but can climb alongside even the strongest rider. Options are available for riding more or fewer miles, and your Trek Travel guides and support vehicle are always close behind!
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
Our Glacier National Park Bike Tour & Glamping vacation is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van. There are non-riding options available such as hiking, horseback riding, and canoeing/kayaking. Non-riding options need to be scheduled before your trip - please contact one of our Trip Consultants at 866-464-8735 for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities are not included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information.

See itinerary for specific daily ride distances and elevation options. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.
