Portugal Bike Tour

Alentejo Wine Region

A visit to the Alentejo region is like stepping into the past, to a time before cities, where ages-old quiet rolling countrysides of wheat, olive trees, vineyards, and cork tree groves are the rule. Here the food, like the pace, is anything but fast, with tasty delicacies like aged cheeses, and ham produced from the black footed pigs that devour the acorns falling from the region’s oak trees. It's also the seat of the world's cork production, still harvested by hand at the same slow pace that's been followed for generations. We'll follow house rules and unwind at one luxurious hotel for the course of our vacation, guaranteed to put you where you want to be without a lot of work, and with a lot of relaxation. From delectable meals to Roman temples in towns like Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where city walls and ruins of Roman baths still remain, this is where time stands still, and the hustle, bustle and busyness of everyday life are long forgotten. Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

The south central region of Alentejo sees favorable temperatures year round, but spring and fall are the best time to visit with average 70-80 degree highs (21-26 degrees Celsius) and lows of 50-55 degrees (10-12 degrees Celsius). Mornings and evenings in fall can be cooler so make sure to pack layers. Rain is infrequent but there is always a chance for a shower so don’t forget your rain gear to assure you comfort while riding. Packing List

Before & After: Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, known as the city of seven hills, is the capital city of Portugal overflowing with great café culture, music, art, and gratuitous history. You'll be enchanted by the narrow, cobbled streets and white washed walls, ochre roofs, and colorful splashes of ceramic tiles. Be sure to walk the streets of some of the many storied neighborhoods and certainly don't pass up a pastéis de nata, Portugal's mouthwatering custard tart. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre and post-trip hotel:
