Know Before You Go!

We want you to be fully prepared for your Étape du Tour Challenge. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless.

Your Trip Need to Knows:

  • Entry-pass only: As an Official Tour Operator, Trek Travel is able to provide entry passes to the L’Étape du Tour. Trek Travel’s role is limited to processing your event registration. There will be no Trek Travel staff or support present in the lead‑up to the event or on race day. Participants are fully responsible for all aspects of their race experience, including bib pickup, logistics, preparation, and participation on event day. Trek Travel does not provide bikes, equipment, or nutrition for this event.
  • Étape du Tour Race Day: The Étape du Tour is a large, mass-participation event. You can expect a very early departure in the morning, as you join thousands of cyclists at the start line.
  • Lodging: Your entry includes race participation only; no hotel rooms are provided, and we do not offer accommodation booking or assistance.
  • E-bikes: Due to race regulations, E-Bikes are not permitted to participate.
  • Riding and fitness level: Advanced fitness as well as bike handling skills are key for this event.
  • Weather and packing: The weather is notoriously unpredictable in the mountains. You can experience all seasons in one day so bringing layers is key! Layering is the best way to regulate your body temperature. This tried-and-true strategy is all about slipping layers on and off as your activity level or the weather changes. The key items of clothing to remember are long-fingered gloves, arm warmers, leg warmers, a vest, and a rain jacket for the summit and descent.

FAQs

July in the French Alps offers long, sun-filled days and refreshing mountain air — ideal conditions for cycling. Daytime temperatures are typically in the 60s to upper 70s ºF (16-26ºC), though the strong alpine sun can make it feel warmer, especially in sheltered valleys. Evenings, however, can be quite cool dropping to the mid 50s to mid 60s ºF (13-18ºC). While July is generally one of the drier months in the Alps, the weather is notoriously unpredictable in the mountains. You can experience all seasons in one day, including occasional afternoon showers. View our Packing List
