The challenge: bold. The training: demanding. The achievement: unparalleled. This is your ultimate continent-crossing ride.

From the Baltic Sea to the shadow of the Acropolis, this is cycling at its most ambitious—a 40-day crossing of an entire continent, through ten countries, across some of the most storied landscapes in the world. Beginning in Copenhagen, the route moves south through Germany's river valleys and Bohemian countryside before climbing into the Austrian Alps for the first of several mountain crossings. Slovenia's Vršič Pass delivers one of the great descents in European cycling. Italy arrives in a single border crossing that turns vineyard hills golden. The Adriatic coast unfolds over days of riding—Opatija, Zadar, Šibenik, Korčula, Dubrovnik—before the route turns inland into Montenegro, Albania, and finally Greece, where the rock pillars of Meteora and the sacred flanks of Mount Parnassus mark the final days before Athens. Over 2,300 miles and 40 riding days, averaging 66 miles and around 4,300 feet of climbing per day, this trip demands serious preparation and genuine commitment to training—our Trek Travel guides handle the rest, so you can focus entirely on the road. When you roll into Athens, you will have crossed a continent under your own power. Few cyclists anywhere will ever do the same.

Trip Wows
  • Pass through six UNESCO World Heritage Sites on a single trip, from Denmark's royal cathedral to the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora

  • Climb the Seebergsattel in Austria and the Vršič Pass in the Slovenian Alps, then take on Albania's Llogaraja Pass above the Ionian Sea

  • Earn rest days in two of Europe's great capital cities, Prague on the Vltava and Dubrovnik's medieval old town rising from the Adriatic

  • Ride Croatia's Dalmatian Coast, crossing by ferry to Pag's lunar limestone landscape and the vineyard roads of Korčula

  • Roll into Athens having crossed an entire continent by bike—Copenhagen to the Acropolis, ten countries, under your own power

Your final night celebrating with incredible views of the Acropolis

Conquer the continent of Europe

40 days. 10 countries. Over 2,300 miles and nearly 150,000 feet of climbing spanning a continent. From the Baltic Sea to the Acropolis—this is your cycling achievement of a lifetime.

What Guests are Saying

Forty days. Ten countries. One bicycle. From the cycling paths of Copenhagen to the foot of the Acropolis, this journey is unlike anything we have ever created. This route will bring you moments that stay with you long after the legs have recovered. If you have ever wondered what it feels like to cycle across a continent, this is your answer.

Great Ride

Llogara Pass in Albania

This climb rises from the Ionian Sea to 3,369 feet (1,027 m) on Albania's SH8—demanding switchbacks through pine forest before the summit reveals one of the Balkans' most striking views, where the mountains meet the sea.

Activity Information

Hotels
Køge, Denmark
Rox Resort
Luxury August 26, 2027 departure date only.

On the shores of Køge Bay, a half-hour south of Copenhagen, Rox Resort brings a distinctly international sensibility to the Danish coast. Two rooftop pools seem to float straight into the sea, and a cocktail bar carries that same view out over the bay. Every room opens onto its own private balcony that keeps the water always in view.
Please note that only the first, last, and rest day hotels are shown here.

Copenhagen, Denmark
Radisson Collection Royal Hotel – Copenhagen
Luxury September 2, 2027 departure date only.

Designed by Arne Jacobsen in 1960 as Copenhagen’s first skyscraper and the world’s first design hotel, the Royal Hotel remains the definitive expression of Danish modernism. The Egg and Swan chairs still grace the lobby, and several rooms are preserved as a tribute to the hotel’s mid-century origins.

Prague, Czech Republic
Grand Hotel Prague Towers
Explorer

This 26-floor landmark in Prague’s Nusle district is steps from the Vyšehrad metro and a short ride from the old town. Take the elevator up to the Apollo Day Spa, where an indoor pool beneath floor-to-ceiling windows looks out over the rooftops of Prague, alongside a sauna, steam rooms, and a full fitness center. Come evening, settle in at the lobby bar, where a pianist plays late into the night.

Bled, Slovenia
Hotel Park
Explorer

Right on the promenade at Lake Bled, Hotel Park places you at the water’s edge with Bled Castle and the island church in direct view. Rooms open onto private balconies with views of either the lake or the surrounding parkland, and a full wellness center with indoor pool and sauna sits below. The restaurant draws on Slovenian cuisine, and the town’s cafés and shops are a short walk along the shore.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik
Luxury

Perched above the Adriatic near Lapad Bay, this modern hotel pairs all-white minimalist interiors with rooms that open onto private balconies. A rooftop lounge, poolside bar, and refined restaurant make good use of the sea views, while the spa — traditional hammam, steam room, sauna, and indoor pool — offers a genuine restorative pause between days on the coast.

Meteora, Greece
Grand Meteora Hotel
Explorer

At the foot of the Meteora rock formations in the village of Kastraki, the hotel sits directly below the UNESCO-listed monasteries perched on the sandstone pillars above. Earth tones, stone, and timber run throughout; every room opens onto a private balcony facing the rocks. The restaurant serves locally sourced Mediterranean meals, and the spa includes a hammam, sauna, and indoor pool.

Athens, Greece
NYX Experia Palace
Luxury

On Stadiou Avenue steps from Syntagma Square, NYX Esperia Palace brings a deliberately bold energy to central Athens. Graffiti murals by Greek street artist Gera1 run through the interiors, and the rooftop pool and Kalua Lounge on the 10th floor look directly out over the Acropolis. A full spa, sauna, and indoor pool offer a welcome retreat when the city calls for a slower pace.

Know Before You Go!

We want you to be fully prepared for your cycling vacation of a lifetime. This involves making sure that you choose the appropriate trip for you and that every aspect of your experience is flawless. Each Trek Travel trip is unique to ensure maximum enjoyment every time.

Your Trip Need to Knows:

  • Routes: When designing this tour, we aim to avoid major highways and busy roads as much as possible, prioritizing countryside routes, bike paths, and scenic secondary roads. Due to the nature of the trip, there may be occasional stretches where some traffic is unavoidable. Road surfaces vary throughout the route. While much of the riding is on good-quality asphalt, some sections may be rough in places.
  • Weather: Weather conditions on this trip can change quickly, especially in mountainous areas. Temperatures may vary significantly throughout the day depending on elevation and weather patterns. We recommend bringing layers and appropriate rain gear to stay comfortable during changing conditions.
  • Border Crossings: During this trip you will cross ten international borders, including into Montenegro and Albania, which are outside the Schengen zone. Carry a valid passport on all ride days, as border checks may occur. Your guides will brief you in advance of any days where passport checks are likely.
  • Cell Service: There are sections where cell service is limited along the route. Your guides carry radios and satellite communication devices to ensure support is always available, even in the most remote areas.
  • Accommodations: You will stay in a variety of carefully selected hotels throughout the trip, chosen to reflect the character of each region. Standards and styles vary—in smaller towns and more remote areas, properties may be simpler, but all have been selected for comfort, hospitality, and location. In a handful of locations, options are genuinely limited by geography.
  • Energy Products: Trek Travel will have a variety of energy products and electrolyte tablets available throughout the trip. If you rely on a specific brand or product, we recommend bringing enough to last the full 40 days, as availability along the route cannot be guaranteed.
  • Dining: Evening meals highlight local cuisine and the best restaurants available near or at our hotels, ranging from elevated dining to honest regional cooking. In some locations, options are more limited, and meals may be simpler, but always well chosen and well earned after a day in the saddle.
  • Lunches: On many days, lunch takes place on a rolling basis at designated “feed zones” set up by your guides along the route. These are intentionally quick stops — a good spread of sandwiches, salads, fruit, sweet and savory snacks, energy products, and beverages to keep you fueled through the afternoon. On occasion, the route passes a café or local restaurant worth stopping at, and your guides will make the most of those moments.

Before and After Your Trip

FAQs

August in Denmark typically brings long daylight hours, mild coastal breezes, and comfortable riding conditions. Temperatures often range from the mid-60s to mid-70s°F (18–24°C), with cooler mornings and evenings.
As you travel south through Germany and Central Europe, expect warm late-summer days in the 70s and low 80s°F (21–28°C), with occasional rain showers possible.
By September along the Adriatic and into the Balkans, temperatures can reach the 70s and 80s°F (21–32°C), with strong sun exposure on coastal stretches. In Greece during late September and October, days are generally sunny and warm, often in the 70s°F (21–26°C), cooling in the evenings.
Rain is always a possibility, particularly in mountain regions, so we recommend packing layers and light rain gear to stay comfortable throughout the journey.
