Activity Level: Level 2, Level 3
Terrain: Hilly
The terrain in Norway’s fjordland region is hilly, ranging from rolling to mountainous, with some steady climbs and smile-inducing descents. From the Sognefjellet mountain pass at 4,920 feet (1,500 m) to gentler rides through the Mørkrid Valley, you’ll encounter an adventurous mix of challenges and remote landscapes. Ride along quiet, well-paved roads, past fjordside villages, lakeshores, and through several tunnels—a distinctive feature of the region. The imposing fjord terrain means even valley roads can include occasional short, steep hills. While cruise ship dockings can temporarily increase vehicle traffic on normally empty roadways, local drivers are accustomed to sharing the roads with cyclists, ensuring a safe and rewarding ride.
Norway is best suited for our Level 2 and Level 3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can easily accommodate those who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. For those eager to experience every mile but mindful of their physical limits, our electric bike options offer a comfortable and enjoyable solution. Level 3+ Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options provide.
