Activity Level: Level 3, Level 4
Terrain: Hilly
The unpaved surfaces on our Portugal Gravel bike tour are rated as Intermediate. About 80% of the riding is unpaved with frequent sections of rough road and chunky gravel as well as some potholes, ruts, divots, and washboard-like surfaces. The western Algarve region is composed of the Serra de Monchique mountain range which rises gradually from the cliffs along the ocean. The terrain is undulating with rolling hills along the coast and steeper hills as you venture inland. The support van will be stationed at key points along the route, as it can't always follow the entire route.
Our Portugal Gravel bike tour is best suited for our Level 3 / 4 Riders with gravel or singletrack mountain biking experience. Level 2 riders who are comfortable riding rough gravel but are looking for less mileage can ride the short options and take the shuttles offered in the itinerary. For those familiar with gravel riding and eager to experience every mile, yet mindful of their physical limits, our electric-assist bike option offers a comfortable and enjoyable solution. Our avid route options add extra mileage and elevation for those who want to challenge themselves further.
