AVERAGE DAILY ELEVATION:
662 meters / 2,175 feet
TOTAL ELEVATION:
4,632 meters / 15,200 feet
TERRAIN: HILLY TO MOUNTAINOUS
The terrain is hilly country, with a few long climbs through the Andean steppe as we ascend the spine of the Andes. Chile is best suited for our Type 3 Riders. Type 4 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer.
NON-RIDING ACTIVITIES:
This destination is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. Because of the terrain and/or remoteness of the hotels and riding routes, there are few, if any, non-riding options available. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van and/or at the hotels on the trip. Due to this, we strongly discourage non-riders from this destination. As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866-464-8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:
  • Amsterdam to Bruges
  • Ireland
  • Provence
  • Portugal
  • Piedmont

On all of our vacations, Trek Travel seeks to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

Arriving

We suggest that you arrive at least one or two days prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone (GMT-3) and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We also recommend a minimum of three hours for connecting flights within Chile. Please book your flights into Temuco Airport/La Araucanía International Airport (ZCO). The official shuttle company at Temuco’s Airport is called TransAraucania - https://www.transaraucania.cl/. They are the only authorized shuttle company at the airport, and their staff wears a blue and green uniform. TransAraucania has transportation available every day and are ready to meet all domestic flights. They are located in the airport, next to the automatic doors at baggage claim. TransAraucania offers regular shuttles to Pucon at $15.000 pesos (USD $17 per person), with a minimum of four people. Under four passengers, a private shuttle can be arranged for CLP100.000 (USD $120 per vehicle). Vehicles are readily available. We recommend arranging your shuttle upon arrival at the airport. Cash (in Chilean pesos) and Credit Card are accepted. The ATM’s is on second floor. All shuttle services will drop you off at the hotel or address you are staying in Pucon. Driving time is approximately one hour and 30 minutes.

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the main lobby of Hotel Antumalal in Pucon at 9:00 AM on the first day of the trip. After a welcome lunch and a bike fitting session, you'll be off on your first ride. Please come dressed ready to ride or have your first day’s riding gear handy and separate from your other luggage to facilitate the bike fitting and ride.

If you will be late for the pick-up or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip starts with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our first hotel, Hotel Antumalal (+56 45 244 1011), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details.

Please note: On select dates in 2025 your first hotel and meeting location will be the Hotel Casa Solaria (+56 45 274 5600) in Pucon. All other travel details remain the same.
