Wide switchbacks take you past the terraced valleys of the western Tramuntana Mountains as you cruise over the Col d'Orient and through the charming towns of Alaro and Bunyola. Here, local charm abounds, and you’ll want to make a pit stop at our favorite café for a traditional cortado and to soak in the atmosphere. Port de Sóller to Sa Calobra Return
Approximately 50 miles with 8,500 feet of climbing

Description:

Admire Mallorca’s dramatic Tramauntana coastline today from the tranquil calm of the Mediterranean Sea! Spend the morning on crystal waters aboard our private sailboat, cruising past secluded rocky coves and powder-sand beaches. Our destination is Sa Foradada, a restaurant with a stunning location set into the cliffs of the Tramauntana coast, a UNESCO World Heritage and only accessible by boat or a tough hike. The same family has lived, fished and cooked at the restaurant for over 40 years, with no electricity. They cook on open fires, which is the family secret behind the fragrant, smoky scent of their famous paellas. After a delicious lunch you'll cruise back to Soller with plenty of time to sit back and relax by the hotel pool, wander through the port or maybe take another dip in the crystalline Mediterranean Sea. If you would rather ride today, choose to experience one of Mallorca's most famous routes: Sa Calobra. This picturesque set of switchbacks looks like a handful of spaghetti tossed against the mountainside, and will stand as 12 of the best miles you’ll ever ride. Don't forget your camera, because you may never see another road like it! Tonight, you'll take the old town tram, "the Orange Express" back into the medieval town of Sóller where you can explore tiny streets filled with boutiques, bars and eateries. Indulge your taste buds tonight at a local bistro to experience some "mar y montana" (sea and mountain) specialties.

FAQs

Trip Changes

Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer each and every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

  • Rider Type | 3
  • Average Daily Mileage | 40
  • Terrain | Hilly
  • Average Daily Elevation | 3,800 ft.

On all of our vacations, Trek Travel strives to find quiet, paved secondary roads or bike paths to experience a region; busy roads are avoided as much as possible. Mallorca is best suited for our Type 3 Riders. Our Trek Travel guides can also easily accommodate Type 2 Riders, who seek less mileage or fewer uphills, with a boost in the van. Type 4 Riders will enjoy the extra mileage the avid route options offer. The terrain is varied with rolling plains and hilly coastline. Mountain climbs generally are a steady grade, but can be steep in places. See Itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.

The fall in Mallorca brings optimal riding temperatures (65F-75F) with evening temperatures dropping 5-10 degrees. Being an island, Mallorcan weather can be unpredictable at times and the island can experience rain showers and coastal winds. It is advisable to bring warm layers and rain gear.

On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip—please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information. Some non-riding options on this trip are:

  • Relax and rejuvenate in style at the signature Spa at Castell Son Claret
  • Savor local flavor and tradition on local winery tours
  • Hike in the dramatic Tramuntana mountains
  • Swim in the crystal blue Mediterranean
  • Golf
  • Explore medieval villages of the Tramuntana coast

For an additional fee you may request to upgrade to the Trek Emonda SLR with Shimano Di2 Electronic shifting or Bontrager Aeolus carbon wheels for the ultimate riding experience. Contact our trip consultants for more details.

If you’re going we’re going on almost all our trips. Trips with 1 guest booked are guaranteed to run. Select trips like Cross Country, Race and Special Edition trips require a minimum number of guests to run and are not guaranteed until that number is reached. Contact your Trip Consultant for more details.

In the event that a departure has low enrollment, we will notify guests at 60-90 days before departure to give the option to select a different date with more guests booked. Please do not reserve airfare before confirming your Trek Travel trip.

When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation letter is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start you will receive an email containing a trip start meeting location reminder and any last minute information that you will need to know before your trip.
