Welcome to your Mallorca cycling camp! Today, you’ll be assigned to your Trek bike for the week and receive important information about the daily schedule and ride options. Take on the Alcudia Loop, a perfect ride to start the week of training. You'll be riding out of the Hotel through two of the oldest towns on the island, Pollença, and Alcudia. Pedal around and through the ancient town walls built for protection from pirates in the 16th century. Stop in for a quick coffee or choose to ride a nice little climb alongside the Bay of Pollença as you make your way out to the base of Ermita de la Victoria, a 15th-century Carmelite convent. You’ll return through the flatland roads, lined with dry-stone walls that will bring you towards Sa Pobla and back to the hotel where you can check into your room before joining the group for dinner and discussing the adventure ahead.

Today, Mallorca isn’t kidding around. It’s a big day in the mountains as we ride over and up to the iconic Sa Calobra. You'll have just enough time to warm your legs up before the first climb toward Lluc. Take in the beauty of the Tramuntana mountains noticing the olive trees, the sweet smell of almond blossoms, and the changes in the vegetation as you reach the top. The Sa Calobra road balances beauty with brawn. It’s one of the most picturesque routes in Europe, but it demands serious mental toughness since you have to ride all the way down it before you ride up it. This climb is easily one of the most popular in Europe and one of the best 12 miles you'll ever ride. Don't forget your camera, because you may never see another road like it!

Your Trek Travel guides will be available to provide you with some guidance as you select a favorite route, or choose to explore the countryside of Mallorca, through the many almond orchards and farmland. Incredible ocean views greet you once more as you climb up, over, and alongside the Tramuntana coastline, passing rugged cliffs and ancient stone relics along the way. Stop in for a quick coffee, almond cake, or freshly squeezed OJ in the town of Soller which is considered to be one of the most attractive towns in all of Spain with its main square lined with cafes and stunning architecture. After you fuel up, it's on to tackle the iconic climb up Puig Major, the highest peak on the island where enchanting views and a well-deserved recovery awaits you at the top. You'll have a scenic and net-downhill return to the hotel where the hotel spa awaits for a quick dip in the pool or hot tub before venturing out to dinner of your choice. Make sure to celebrate your day with a scoop or two of Gelato. You earned it!

You'll be surrounded by other cyclists on their way out to the famous lighthouse, awaiting your arrival at the end of the peninsula. You'll feel the burn in your legs as you churn the gears through the miles today, but the imagery is worth every pedal stroke so don't forget to look up and smile. Arriving

We suggest that you arrive at least one day prior to the trip start, which will enable you to adjust to the time zone and minimize the risk of missing the trip start due to flight-related delays. We recommend that you fly in to Palma de Mallorca (PMI).

You can find connections to this airport from many major European cities, although Barcelona, Spain is the closest (a 45-minute flight) and a great place to visit before and after your trip.

There are multiple ways to transfer to the Monnaber Hotel from Palma Airport. Car rentals are available and strongly recommended as our trip hotel is somewhat remote. Alternatively, taxis are plentiful and operate 24 hours a day from within Palma. Transfer from PMI to Monnaber Nou is approximately 75 euros for 1-4 passengers. Trek Travel recommends Mallorca Private Transfers shuttle service to the hotel. Reservations can be made through https://www.mallorcaprivatetransfers.com You may also consult the Palma airport website at www.palmaairport.info/ for more transportation information.

Please note that some European rental companies are now requiring an International Driving Permit. AAA is one of only two private entities in the U.S. authorized by the U.S. Department of State to issue an IDP.

Your Trek Travel staff will meet you at the Monnaber Nou Eco Hotel (Possessió Monnaber Nou, 07310 Campanet) at 11:00 AM on the first day of the Mallorca cycling trip. Upon meeting your guides and getting checked into the hotel, we will ensure you have a great fit to your Trek bike for the week and give you a few pointers before you head off on a self-guided warm-up ride.

If you will be late for the meeting time, or are going to miss it altogether, please inform your guides. You will receive an email a week before the trip start with their names and contact details. If you cannot reach them, please call our hotel, Monnaber Nou Eco Hotel (+34 971 877 176), and leave a message with your expected arrival time and contact details. You may take a taxi to Monnaber Nou Eco Hotel in Campanet, for approximately 60 euros.

Planning For Your Trip

Packing and Weather

On our Mallorca cycling trip, the average temperatures are 55F-65F with evening temperatures dropping 5-10 degrees cooler. Late spring brings much warmer temperatures, but being an island, Mallorcan weather can be unpredictable at times and the island can experience odd rain showers and coastal winds. It is advisable to bring warm layers and also rain gear. Packing List

Before and After Your Trip

before

Before: Barcelona, Spain

The Catalonian capital of Barcelona boasts a beautiful coastline; a great diversity of culture, leisure, and shopping; creative, innovative gastronomy; and an avant-garde spirit. Be sure to check out some of the fantastic architecture and art of Antonio Gaudi, such as Sagrada Familia or Parc Guell. The Gothic quarter is the heart of Barcelona’s old town, with narrow cobblestone streets on which Picasso and Miró lived long ago. Las Ramblas is a long tree-lined shoppers’ paradise that leads to the sea. Be sure not to miss the fascinating Boqueria market as well. We recommend the following accommodations for your pre-trip hotel:

after

After: Palma, Mallorca

Mallorca – the older, more mature sibling of the party-focused Balearic Islands. Of course, you’ll be able to find a great bar or nightclub in Palma, but that’s not all this great island has to offer. With its idyllic turquoise Mediterranean waters, warm golden cliffs, and secluded beach coves, hiking trails through the Tramuntana Mountains, and vast plains of almond groves, orange groves, olives, and vineyards, you’ll surely be able to entertain yourself for a few days surrounding your Trek Travel Ride Camp trip. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:
