Stay at the Canvas Hotel on our Mountain Bike trip in Norway

Canvas Hotel

Treungen, Norway

Imagine hundreds of square miles of smooth granite, linked together by brown paths through lush vegetation. Imagine finishing your ride over a wooden bridge, onto a small island in a dark, quiet lake. Suddenly, in the middle of the rocks, you come apon a hotel like nothing you have ever seen. Traditional Mongolian yurt-style tents and specially designed house-tents dot the landscape all in a heavy, khaki-colored canvas. Small bridges connect the hotel to the trails on each side of this tiny island, and the biking remains exciting all the way to the hotel’s heart. Meanwhile, delectable cuisine characterizes every meal and is as distinctive as the hotel itself. Before dinner, have a chilly swim in the lake, take a warm bath in the tub on the dock, enjoy a steamy sauna, and a hot shower from a can hung between two trees. Combine all this into one-of-a-kind luxury after hours on a bike in this magical landscape.
Stay at the Clarion Hotel Tyholmen on our Mountain Bike trip in Norway

Clarion Hotel Tyholmen

FAQs

Trip Changes

Our itineraries are an approximation of our trips. Trek Travel strives to offer each and every guest a vacation of a lifetime on every trip. At times routes, hotels, activities, etc. listed here may change at the discretion of the trip designer or guides to improve the trip experience.

  • Rider Type | 2&3
  • Average Daily Mileage | 12
  • Terrain | Mountainous
  • Average Daily Elevation | 1,000 ft. of climbing, 1,000 ft. of descending

On all of our trips Trek Travel strives to find the most enjoyable but challenging trails, over a variety of terrain, in order to fully experience the region. The Norway mountain biking trip is best suited for our Type 2 and 3 Riders with at least intermediate technical mountain biking skills. Terrain in Norway is mountainous and rugged in nature. Riders can expect 3+ hours per day on their bikes in a remote landscape. Trails are well constructed and maintained. You'll experience a few hike-a-bike sections and a river crossing or two. Overall, it's a fantastic adventure. See day by day itinerary for specific daily ride distance and elevation options.

Each day your guides will describe the featured ride and your supported options for the day. Those who want more miles and more technical terrain and those who want less may split into two groups in order to ride different trails or simply go at different speeds. The nature of the trails in Norway is that they are remote and un-marked, so a guide is necessary. If a group prefers to split off or start the day with a different ride option, our guides could take each group.

On most Trek Travel trips, we offer non-riding options for riders who want to take the afternoon off, or travel companions who want to spend little or no time in the saddle. Some of these options may need to be scheduled before your trip–please contact one of our Trip Consultants for more information. Expenses and/or related transportation to these activities may not be included in the trip price. See Included In The Trip Price for more information. Some non-riding options on this trip are:

  • Swimming
  • Hiking
  • Fishing
  • Canoeing
  • Shopping

From late June to early August, the weather is at its warmest and it never seems to get really dark. It’s a welcome respite after a long, dark and cold winter and like the flowers, the Norwegians bloom from the new-found sun and warmth. Late June to early August is when summer is at its peak, with temperatures that can reach 80°F. At the same time there is hardly any humidity in the air, and even at night temperatures can remain high.

If you’re going we’re going on almost all our trips. Trips with 1 guest booked are guaranteed to run. Select trips like Cross Country, Race, and Special Edition trips require a minimum number of guests to run and are not guaranteed until that number is reached. Contact your Trip Consultant for more details.

In the event that a departure has low enrollment, we will notify guests at 60-90 days before departure to give the option to select a different date with more guests booked. Please do not reserve airfare before confirming your Trek Travel trip.

When a trip is booked, a guest confirmation letter is immediately sent out. One week prior to the trip start you will receive an email containing a trip start meeting location reminder and any last minute information that you will need to know before your trip. Once you arrive at your destination Trek Travel staff will brief you on the day-to-day plan for the trip and provide you with daily route guides and a detailed map allowing you to ride with complete confidence and independence.
