Activity Level: Level 4
Terrain: Hilly to Mountainous
The unpaved surfaces on our Provence to Girona Gravel bike tour are rated as Advanced. About 70% of the riding is unpaved, primarily featuring a mix of smooth dirt roads, sparse to moderate gravel, loose, deep gravel, singletrack, and double track. This trip starts at the Mediterranean Sea and travels up and over the Pyrenees mountains, with rolling hills along the coast followed by steeper, hilly terrain on the inland stretch and ending with a mountainous climb and descent on Day 7. The support van will be stationed at key points along the route, as it can't always follow the entire route.
This tour is ideal for Level 4 riders who have singletrack experience or are comfortable with chunky gravel sections, steep climbs, and mountainous terrain. Strong navigation skills are also required, as the route includes remote sections where riders may be more spread out. For those familiar with gravel riding and eager to experience every mile, yet mindful of their physical limits, our electric-assist bike option offers a comfortable and enjoyable solution.

This destination is best suited to guests who want to cycle every day. Because of the terrain and/or remoteness of the hotels and riding routes, there are few, if any, non-riding options available. If a non-rider wants to accompany a rider guest on this trip, they would need to spend many hours in the van and/or at the hotels on the trip. Due to this, we strongly discourage non-riders from this destination. As an alternative, call a Trek Travel Trip Consultant at 866-464-8735 for trip suggestions where more non-rider activities are available, such as:
