Trek Travel: On Two Wheels with Tania Burke – EverettPotter.com

Pedaling across the United States has long been on Tania Burke’s “sprocket list,” as they say in cycling circles.

For the time being, however, she has to enjoy the grueling, 3,400-mile, 42-day ride that gains 141,000 feet – an average of 93 miles and more than 3,800 feet of climbing a day – from her office in Madison, WI, where she toils as president of Trek Travel. Not that Burke – who is married to Trek Bicycles president John Burke, making them perhaps the ultimate cycling power couple – doesn’t get in lots of miles.

Beautiful, first-timer friendly Door County Century Ride – jsonline.com

Ever since my bad knee finally gave out at Tough Mudder in 2017, I have been looking for … something. I loved my half marathons, triathlon sprints, mud runs and obstacle course races. These events all gave me a purpose in the gym and goals to achieve and friends to train with.

But with a bad knee that will dog me for the rest of my life, my doctors have told me to stop running. I turned to cycling, and it has become a good alternative for me – and I hope you think about it for yourself, too. In the last few years, thanks to riding in the Trek 100, the Scenic Shore 150 and taking a Trek Travel vacation riding through Tuscany, I have discovered the joy of pushing for longer distances and bigger hill climbs.

20 Bike Routes That Are Begging for a Fall Road Trip – Bicycling Magazine

Monument Valley: “It’s just an unbelievable landscape,” says Dave Edwards, a guide with Trek Travel for 16 years, of the desert scenery you’ll encounter on the approximately 45-mile ride that stretches along Route 13 from northern Arizona to southern Utah through Navajo Nation’s Monument Valley Tribal Park.

In terms of difficulty level, the route, which is slightly hilly and open to cars, is best suited to intermediate riders, Edwards says. Extend your stay overnight and experience yet another pinch-me panorama: an “unreal” sky of stars, he says.

4. Alaska

Some would say the deep beauty of the last frontier is better experienced on your own. Explore the wonders of one of the last great American ski towns around Alyeska Resort, hop a train and marvel at the 360-degree views under the shadow of the massive Chugach range, cruising through the broad Mat Su Valley and to the authentic outpost town of Talkeetna. And, take the Alyeska aerial tram up to the unique mountain top luxury restaurant Seven Glaciers for a truly unique Alaskan dining experience.

If you’re (un)lucky, you’ll encounter grazing caribou, packs of wolves and looming bears on the hunt for spawning salmon. In addition to cycling, this multisport trip also features kayaking in Seward’s Resurrection Bay, floating along the Talkeetna River and a ride on the Alyeska Aerial Tram for unparalleled views.

7 Ways to Bike Tour This Summer – Sierra Club magazine

“The melding of the two activities—either of which makes for a great trip in itself—was what made it unique,” says Dallas’s Mac Tichenor about his 2018 Danube River Cruise, through Trek Travel. “It combined good friends, engaging guides, gorgeous scenery, great bikes, the best food and wine, and the novelty and unexpected luxury of the barge experience.”

Travelers who like the idea of a guided tour but don’t care to spend it with strangers can always splurge on a private tour. Honeymooners and family reunion groups especially like this option—and if the group is large enough, it doesn’t cost much more than standard group tours. Beyond limiting the group to loved ones, friends, or work colleagues, these trips can be fully custom-tailored—you can add a side trip to a special winery, for example, or a “bucket list” ride to a mountaintop.
